Popped to the star city coffee and gastro bar for a quick drink and to look at the views.... the views are lovely unfortunately the bar itself is quite the opposite... the furnishings looked cheap... infact I’d guess it was all from ikea as the glasses were!! I am not against ikea in any way... however I would not expect to find any ikea in a 5* hotel!!
I ordered a cocktail which was served to me in a pint glass with a manky bit of banana stuck on the side... hardly exotic!! Overall very disappointed... one plus point... we now know we haven’t missed out by not staying here!
Apparently a pina colada

So on our recent visit to Lanzarote we popped into the Arrecife Gran hotel ( star city coffee & gastro bar ) for a drink. I ordered an appletiser so I couldn’t really go wrong, my partner ordered a Pina Colada and it was served in an IKEA pint glass, it looked vile and it tasted vile... see pics attached!!!
NOT RECOMMENDED, very disappointed!!
On the upside, Amazing views as you will see in the photos attached!
But that’s all that was amazing.
I’ve given my 2 star rating purely on the view... otherwise it would be no star.
Nice rooms.

Stayed for a week, we had a nice suite with a lovely view over reducto beach. I agreed with another review though, that a television in the lounge area would have been nice (and preferred) as well as the bedroom (particularly in the winter months when it gets dark early!) As the large windows are great asset to the room, you can't see that much in the dark through them.
The buffet breakfast was excellent with a good choice, i did feel the dinner wasn't so good, although a good choice of starters etc. It was let down by a poor choice of main course, some which were lukewarm, you didn't always want to use the grill, i did feel it wasn't of a five star hotel quality. I do think at least once during your stay a meal on the 17th floor restaurant should be included in the price for all guests.
Overall though we did enjoy our stay, thank you.
Fabulous place and amazing staff !

I spent 8 days at the hotel. Everything was great from the Reception to the Pool Bar.
Fantastic view from hotel room / proximity to the city center / great connection by bike with Puerto Del Carmen ( BEST BIKE PATH EVER !!! )
Food in buffet restaurant had amazing choices great quality and best service with class.
Cleaning Sevice - TOP / Technical Service - TOP ( when I had problem with TV late night was fixed in 5 minutes) / the best receptionists I have ever met !!!!
Hotel with class for people which prefer class / I'm not talking about a class for youngsters Bling Bling :)
Excellent Hotel. Friendly Staff

15 minute transfer from Airport (we were the first drop-off). Efficient and friendly check-in at reception. Upgrade at extra cost was explained and offered but they weren't pushy about it. Complementary wine and prosecco available in foyer. Room was accessed by substantial door, entry corridor with two large storage cupboards with shelves, hanging space and electronic safe. Door at the end of the corridor opened into large tastefully decorated bedroom. Large double bed (actually two singles pushed together) with bedside lights. Large dressing table with tea and coffee making facilities, minibar fridge containing water and soft drinks. HD TV with remote control is provided. Lots of channels, mainly Spanish and German. English channels start on CH30 (Sky Sport, BBC1&2, ITV, CH4 and 5 is all we could find, but on holiday who wants to watch TV?). Free secure and fast WiFI was provided. Room had sea view (extra) very nice, but rooms without still had lovely views over Arrecife town. Separate bathroom with marble floor, two sinks set into granite worktop. Large vanity mirror with hairdryer and shaving mirror attached to wall. Bath was a reasonable size with shower over. Water was always piping hot and water pressure for the shower was as good as a power shower (room was on 4th floor so pressure may vary if gravity fed). Separate alcove with opaque sliding glass door contained the toilet and bidet. Room was clean. tidy and serviced daily to a high standard. Air conditioning was a bit noisy on level 3 but 2 and 1 were OK. Not the best AC we've ever had but it reduced the humidity. Buffet breakfast (07:30 - 10:30) was available in the 1st floor restaurant. It had a large sweeping aspect with floor to ceiling windows providing spectacular views over the sea, beach, Arrecife town and the dormant volcanoes beyond. Food was excellent and ranged from healthy cereals and fruit, cold meats and cheese, smoked salmon, eggs cooked to order (omelettes, fried), full English breakfast etc..... It would be impossible to fault the availability and choice. Choice of fruit juices, tea and coffee machines and complimentary Prosecco (yes at breakfast!!). Staff were immaculately dressed with the maitre-de's in suit and tie and waiting staff in long black aprons. Hygiene standards were very high. Waiters did not directly handle napkins but used a pair of forks to place them on the table (nice touch). All catering staff cooking the food wore blue hygiene gloves. Service was very quick and efficient without making you feel rushed. Tables were arranged for couples but the staff would accommodate larger groups. Customer facing staff spoke very good english and were very patient at my attempts to practice my terrible spanish. 2nd floor had indoor pool, bar (with extensive tables and seating) food available with waiter service, balcony with about 20 sun beds with some tables and chairs. Extensive views to the beach, Arrecife and dormant volcanoes. Separate area providing Spa facilities and Gym. My wife had a facial, took approximately 45 mins for €75 and was very pleased. Bar prices are provided in the menus, expect to pay €3.50 for a beer and €8.50 for a very large G&T (prices vary according to make of gin). Pool (with lifeguard) had constant depth of about 1 metre, relaxation beds with net curtains were provided around the edge of the pool. Glass roof over the pool had Sahara sand deposits and could have done with a clean but it would probably require specialist equipment (or Spiderman), not a job for someone with a stepladder, bucket and shammy. Small areas of the underside of the wooden decking around the pool had begun to perish but this is being very critical as generally the facilities were excellent.
Hotel caters for people with mobility issues providing ramps and lifts wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair. Three restaurants are available. Buffet on 1st floor provided breakfast and set cost evening buffet (we didn't eat there in the evening but if anything like breakfast will probably be excellent). Two restaurants on the top floor, Star City and Altamar. Both had spectacular views (especially at night). Star City was good for a drink and tapas type eating (we had wine and light meal €40). Altamar was a'la carte 5*, booking advisable, didn't dine there so can't comment on the food. Prices on the menu by the door showed main courses around €29.
Although not the responsibility of the hotel (probably local government) it is necessary to comment on the condition of the area around the rear which looks a bit neglected with areas of basalt cladding missing from the raised flower bed retaining walls and areas of decking missing from the promenade.
So, with a few negative comments why still excellent rating? It's all down to the hotel staff and food. It's the hotel staff that can determine the holiday experience and these guys and gals were fantastic.
