KingEldeston 19/06/2017 01:48Great place of choice to visit Volendam. So close to everything !Just beware of the timed one way road blocks set up both at the entrance to town and to Spaandar once you're in town. The picture below shows how it works.

The hotel is filled with art and it truly is the go-to place for art enthusiasts.
The breakfast wasn't anything out of the ordinary but well worth your money. The staff was friendly and helpful and definitely contributing to the familyesque feeling in the hotel.
We had a wonderful time here, would recommend it!!!
Great Location
ROBERT Won 30/04/2017 19:59Stayed for three nights on a coach tour with John Martin Coach Tours.Rooms were basic but clean and tidy. We were at the side of the hotel so not a great view. Breakfast was good as was the evening meals.All staff friendly and polite.The location of the hotel was excellent situated in the centre of the town. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again if in the area.
Good location and view - nice once you get there
JerseyGirl555on 25/04/2017 21:51The hotel is right in the center of Volendam. It was great to be able to walk through town and visit the shops and restaurants. The balcony rooms have wonderful views of the water. The rooms are very clean and well equipped. Getting to the hotel is difficult from 1 April - 1 November since the traffic in the town is controlled. You can only drive to the hotel or get out of the hotel for short periods of time each hour. During the traffic control, you can only get in on one side of town. This was not obvious from the information provided. We found no signs or information directing us to the right place. When we arrived just outside the town, it took us almost an hour to find the right place to get past the traffic control barrier. Very stressful. The road to the hotel is very narrow and when there are a lot of tourists in town, then it is stressful to get past all the people in the road. The hotel reception was not very friendly and did not welcome us. We had dinner in the hotel one night. It was OK. The hotel is a nice place once you can get there.
Interesting and unique - but poorly organised

The original hotel has obviously had several additions over the years, making for a rather sprawling complex; although all tastefully mirroring the original.
Situated adjacent to the harbour and overlooking the inland sea, the hotel is in a perfect position. Many of the rooms overlook, or have a side view of the sea, although some of the basic rooms have little or no view. Our allocated room was small and spartan but very clean. There is free wi-fi throughout the hotel.
Full of antique furnishings and adorned with paintings and drawings of many styles. The hotel has an interesting history which is beyond, we suggest, the limits of this review, but which can be found on the hotel website.
Unfortunately our experience was rather spoiled by the poor organisation which began at check in when several of our group, including ourselves could not be found on our reservation list. A new card was simply written out and after a brief look at the computer a room was , seemingly, randomly allocated. one couple from the group were settling into their room, when the door opened and another couple walked in claiming that room.
I found out later when checking with the porter for our cases that we had been listed by my first name and not by our surname.
In the dining room I was shown a wine list and some time after making my selection a completely different wine was brought, with the explanation that the menu had been changed.
On another occasion; on ordering a large and a small beer at the bar there were apparently no glasses. The bar person disappeared and some minutes later returned with two glasses which were washed in front of us and the beer dispensed into the wet glasses. Not good, especially when there was no suggestion of an apology, or even a smile.
We wonder if independent travellers would be subjected to the same degree of poor organisation.
