Disaster in Naples
vrgstston 13/08/2016 12:48I booked this place (I can not call it a hotel), although its name is Art Hotel Principe Umberto trough a travel agency. Everything in the name of the so mentioned "hotel" is deceiving. First, it's not "art" and you can see this from the pictures I have uploaded. It's not a hotel as well, as there is not a reception... It consists of different apartments in different buildings, that are situated near the Cantral Railway Station. More than this, the physical address of the hotel, which is declared in different reservation systems, including booking is not true. They have stated 35 Piazza Principe Umbero, and have marked their location close to the seafront street, close to Municipio (Municipality) metro station, but their "head quarter" is located at least 7 km. far from there, close to the Railway Station and their physical address in 35 Piazza di Mercato...Honestly, when I didn't find the address I though that I have been tricked. I found the place with a taxi - it turned out tat some 7-5 years ago Piazza di Principe Umberto was renamed to Piazza di Maercato...But arriving at the address there was no hotel, just a building. The doorman said that Art Hotel was there, but this didn't make me happy, because the building looked like no one lives there. She didn't speak English, so she called on the phone and I was explained that there is a "sbagliato", which means that something is wrong. I had to wait approximately 2 hours. After that I was taken to another apartment in the same area. Now, something about the area - The Central Railway Station or Piazza di Garibaldi is centrally located, close to the old city center, as I was told by my agent. But this is also the most dangerous area in Naples, full of immigrants and famous with different unpleasant incidents. I was feeling unsafe and didn't go out after 20 p.m., which more or less broke my vacation. The apartment was awful - one of the windows was stick with black folio, as the curtain was too small. There were free standing нот isolated cables, the hot plates of the cooker were not working, as the cooker was not connected with the gas system. Inside the cooker was very dirty. I shared one apartment with 2 other guests, and this didin't make me feel safe. The front door of the apartment didn't lock. There was also a problem with the hot water...I had no connection with the owners of the apartment.
A nightmare in naples
Alexander Kon 26/06/2016 18:49We booked the Art Suite principe umberto through a Travel Agency as Bed and Breakfast for 5 nights.
The red haired receptionist was very friendly and helpfull and definitely is the jewel of the B&B!
The description of the B&B stated that the Art Suite is located near the main train station and is near the historic center of naples.
Actually all of that is true, but arriving there we found that the neibourhood is the worst you find in Naples. Despite that, the Breakfast, which was promised and part of the contract did not exist. We were told to get breakfast at the bar around the corner.
The room was moldy, the refrigerator was not working and moldy, both bedside lamps were broken and not plugged in. THe shower was moldy too and the bathroom fittings were loosely stuck to the wall and fell down when we took the towel.
Luckily the free Wifi was working, so we were able to lookup and book another Hotel.
Beautiful
Gianna Ion 07/04/2016 19:24Hotel staff called us to check what time we'd be arriving. We arrived a little later than expected, but that wasn't a problem. Staff was very helpful and friendly.
The hotel itself is stunning, though small, and the lift (pretty typically for the city) worked with a 10 cent coin - if at all.
The room was stunning, with a little kitchen in a closet. At night it was surprisingly quiet (I'm used to something else in Napoli) and we slept well. Unfortunately we had to leave before breakfast. Would definitely recommend, especially for art lovers (they know their stuff).
Easter in Naples at Art Suite Principe Umberto
Marek Son 28/03/2016 16:17I enjoy challenges and new places ...thus Rimini and then Naples were selected for this year's Easter.
Naples showed itself as a dumping ground for debri, toxic waste and litter, derelict buildings ...and to put it mildly, the area where crime is an issue.
Before arrival I had read a great deal of hotel reviews and finally opted for Art Suite Principe Umberto.
ITS MERITS:
- location (a walking distance from the Central Station)
- safety (before you go into your room, you need to unlock two gates and two doors)
- lovely interior, furniture etc.
- coffees to your heart's content
- fast wi-fi
ITS DEMERITS
- a basic breakfast, though served in the room
- no 24-hour reception. Can't think what would have happened if we had arrived two hours later
All in all, Art Suite Principe Umberto is fine but I would not say the same about the city.
