Impressive outside and disappointing inside
Pam Mon 14/10/2015 18:01I had much bigger expectations about it. Impressive web page, impressive building and impressive lobby. The service was the poorest ever. Location is good but not excellent. Breakfast was as bad as the service. Still i did not let it spoil my time in the beautiful town of Mardin.
Crappy service
Kalamition 09/05/2015 08:15Although the building is an impressive 13th century stone caravanserai, the service quality is so bad - almost non-existant.
We couldn't get even a tea in the evening and if you would like to enjoy a cold beer or a glass of wine at the terrace watching sunset, forget it. No alcohol served and allowed at the hotel.
Breakfast is nothing special, nothing local... A typical continental breakfast plus olives.
The best part was the cleaning - it is a very clean hotel.
Also my speacial thanks go to the night shift at the reception who tried to be as helpful as they could.
romantic and well-appointed
garside66on 18/04/2015 16:20Don't take any notice of the negative reviews here. Perfectly good hotel with superb showers and generous breakfast. Our room was huge and comfortable. Only one problem - they claimed our credit card was refused when the problem was with their own machine.
Otantic Stone Hotels vs Cold
GeziTozuon 01/12/2014 06:40Hotel was built in 1275 as a caravansarai. Within hundreds of years it has been used as caravansarai and after that as hospital, school.. Owner family decided to start hotel business in this huge otantic place.
The heating system is only by air conditioner. Windows are not restored and isolated. We stayed in November 28th-30th and it was 2 centigrad degrees in the night time, so the room was quite cold. Inside the bad, under the blanket there is no problem. We requested additional 5 blankets to cover the window which was really good solution, it was much more comfortable in our 2nd night.
I guess rooms' climate will be very comfortable in the summer time, because the building is made by special stones.
This is not unique for this hotel, most of otantic stone hotels might be like this as they are too old and windows are not renovated.
So in the winter time during November-March you should decide weather to choose Othantic vs Cold.
Staff was really helpful and kind. They might help you about your Mardin visit.
Bed-bathroom-room cleanliness was quiet enough. We stayed only for 2 nights and did not use shower as weather was cold. There is hair dryer and clean towels in the room. There is no slipper.
Breakfast was not open buffet, but cheese, olives, tomatos, cucumber, egg and honey with tea was enough, bread was delicious which is made by the bakery just right next door of the hotel. Do not have much breakfast, you should leave space for delicious kebabs.
The pillows were really high, they could not find lower ones. But we solved by unfilling the pillow :)
They may organise "Sıra Gecesi" which is traditional music of choir if you pay the cost which is not so cheap. But if you are a group you may share the cost.
I suggest you to stay in this hotel as price-performance is the best for me.
Romantic and full of atmosphere
Patricia Gon 23/10/2014 20:14This is a beautiful and romantic hotel, overlooking the Mesopotamian plains from its vantage point, high on the escarpment on which the historic centre of Mardin stands. The interior is a maze of corridors opening out into beautiful rooms and a rooftop terrace. Our bedrooms were exquisite, with four-posters beds draped in gauzy fabrics, vast mirrors and cool stone floors. Like something out of the Arabian Nights! Absolutely recommended. And reasonably priced.
