GREAT PLACE TO STAY FOR THE WAGNER FESTIVAL!!
Walter Jon 04/08/2017 20:06This is probably the best place to stay for the Festspiel in Bayreuth!
The breakfast is to die for and includes sparkling wine!
A special shout out to Selin Ozkisaoglu who is a waitress!!
At 10:30 AM, the breakfast morphes to lunch, which was great as well.
The staff could not be more helpful.
There is a free bus that takes you to the Festspielhaus.
It is 4 Euros back after the performance.
The rooms are a bit spartan, but it is one of the few hotels with air conditioning!
Step Back into the 90s
Peter Eon 20/07/2017 08:03This is a really strange hotel. It's located in a quiet and pleasant residential area about 8 minutes walk from the town centre, in a building that looks like a 1960s hospital. It clearly caters above all for the conference market and would make an odd choice for the private guest visiting Bayreuth (as I was).
Inside I can't really begin to describe the "uniqueness" of design in areas like the bar/breakfast room. Think 1980s mirrored walls (some with gold tinting), fake marble Grecian pillars, horrific 90s abstract style "modern" art, random penguin statues, fake plastic flowers and flamingo pink cane furniture. It looks a bit like a really bad provincial gay sauna. The lobby fares only marginally better with acres of office carpet and office style chairs, IKEA style 90s beech wood fittings, juxtaposed with a random full sized 19th century wooden carriage (why?), more plastic flowers and more terrible amateur abstract art. The decor is both breathtakingly bad and absolutely fascinating in equal measure.
On to the rooms. They fold off hospital-like corridors and are basic. There's a nice newly fitted wood laminate floor, but otherwise it's back to the 90s. IKEA beech wood everywhere with blue detailing, thin 90s German style "contemporary" curtains that let the light pour in, cheap cream coloured bedding and a very basic plain white bathroom. Plus more bad abstract art. They're a decent size, however, and contain trouser presses and have very good a/c.
Breakfasts in German hotels are rarely poor. The one here is of a decent, though unexceptional
standard. The quality of the items is good to very good; it's just the choice isn't that extensive. The staff throughout the hotel deserve a special mention: everyone I encountered was really genuinely friendly and lovely. That goes a long way to countering the horrors of the interior design.
PLUS POINTS
+ Close to the City Centre
+ Great a/c and water pressure
+ Super helpful and friendly staff
+ Decent enough breakfast
+ Spotlessly clean
NEGATIVE POINTS
- It's hideous
- Narrow, hard beds and cheap bedding
- Rooms don't even begin to black out
- Wifi struggled to reach 0.2 Mbps. Unusable.
- Full of conference visitors
SUMMARY
As I said at the outset, this is a really odd choice for a private guest. There have to be better options in town where you don't expect Bonnie Tyler to be serving you coffee at breakfast. For conference guests who have no aesthetic appreciation of anything and aren't bothered about being woken up at 5am with light in their rooms, fair choice. The place functions.
Good hotel, but missing some amenities
Walter Son 05/04/2017 16:31I had to stay for three nights in this four-star hotel, which is in walking distance (10 min) from the station as well as from the city. The room was clean, the wardrobe was large enough for a short stay and a single person, only. There were no reading lamps beside the beds, the TV screen rather small, and no bathroom slippers were provided. The WiFi was for free but rather slow; it took several minutes for downloading my newspaper. A Skype video conversation in the evening was hardly possible. To finish with some positive comments: the breakfast was fine, the staff friendly and supportive, and I would probably stay in the hotel next time again.
Generous and nice
Amr Aon 29/03/2017 23:31Came to the city for a business meeting, the Hotel and its staff are nice and helpful. The food is good. Walking distance to a shopping mall and downtown area.
It is the capital of breweries in the world. And has a great underground historical built tunnels
