Disappointing

We found the hotel room dark and basic, public areas tatty and in general need of refurbishment. We felt very uneasy just outside the hotel where there were lots of beggars and strange goings on in the building next door. Our experience of breakfast was appalling: the dining room was in the basement and extremely busy and noisy, staff couldn't keep up with the number of guests, food was very poor and tasteless, not enough hot drink machines. Endless waits for 'clean' cutlery and crockery, very unhygienic food areas. Fortunately it wasn't all doom and gloom - we enjoyed using the pool and gym and being so close to the beautiful beach area and nearby transport facilities.

Quite a good location.

The location is good for shopping and the beach with all the bars and restaurantes. Due to the one way system and a dodgy sat nav, we had a bit of trouble finding the hotel. Reception was fine. We did not eat here in the evening, because, frankly what was on offer didn't look very appetising. Breakfast was a help yourself buffet style, and it seemed to us that the staff were having trouble keeping up with demand. Sausages had run out, and by the time they were replenished, the eggs had run out, and the coffee machine had to keep having a rest. However, you get what you pay for, and for the price I felt the hotel was good value for money. I didn't like having to hand in the room key every time we went out, as we frequently had to wait behind a new arrival checking in to pick up our key again on our return. The room was clean and was serviced well.

In the city, on the beach

Me and my friend were staying for a week in Hotel Astoria, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in April, 2017. Immediately after our arrival we felt very friendly atmosphere at the reception thanks to the reception staff. The hotel is located maybe 2 - 3 minutes walk from the beach in spite of the fact that it is situated in the city. The room was not very spacious, but noisless, really clean, air condition worked without any problem, free wi-fi was accessible everywhere, even on the roof top. On the rooftop there is a bar, pool and deckchairs. The room was not equipped with a fridge and a kettle, it is the only small minus, I think. But again I have to appreciate the hotel staff, at the reception, restaurant and in the rooftop bar - all of them were always smiling, friendly, prompt, willing and helpfull! We were very satisfied, because we prefer beach and city combination. I also have to appraise halfboard, breakfast was tasty, rich and the dinner as well, both with fresh fruits and vegetables. Simply said, exellent services for very reasonable price. I can recommend this destination to everyone who prefer the hotels very few minutes from the beach and loves night walking in the city streets full with various shops, bars and cafes.

Slightly dated but overall a great hotel.

A group of three of us in early/mid 20s stayed here end of April 2017. The hotel is a little old fashioned in the way it's decorated, but other than that it's fantastic. The staff were all lovely and very helpful, most of them speak fluent English which is really helpful. There is free WiFi throughout the hotel but the connection is weak on the roof. The food was pretty average, but definitely nothing to complain about. The bar, pool, sauna and gym areas on the top floor/roof are well kept, and while we were there, quite quiet which was great as far as we were concerned. There's also a room with pool table, air hockey, table tennis & foosball table, almost every time we went in there it was empty. A lot of the customers staying there seem to be older and not really interested in that kind of thing, but it was really nice to have the space to chill in the evenings. So overall a really nice hotel, I would definitely stay there again.

Fair enough with plenty of room for improvement

This hotel has a great location. It's just 5 min away or less to/from the beach. It has a lot of common areas which are great to have a drink or just chill. The pool is at the roof top which is great cuz you get sun the whole year around, they have also a nice bar at the top and a very nice size gym. The truth is that this is one of the biggest gym within a hotel I ve ever seen BUT the equipment is really really old. It's like a gym from the 80's. Anyway you could get a decent workout from it. The room I was put into was a bit small and very old fashion. The toilet look like they have refurnished it not very long time ago. It was ok. The breakfast food for me was the worst, really poor quality food. But for the price I have paid I think it's fair to say the overall stay was good. Average customers age around 55 but this is normal on this island.
