Nice motel but poor management
Lynn Mon 22/07/2017 02:04We stayed here the night of July 12, 2017. Arrived about 8 PM and had to wait quite some time for someone to come to the registration desk. Check-in went fine. Found a very nice, clean and spacious room. When checking out in the morning, the same guy was working the desk as well as trying to keep up the cont. breakfast area, which had quite a few guests. When checking out is when we received the surprise of an increased room rate. I had made this reservation back on Feb. 4, 2017 via a phone call direct to this motel (we never do 'online' reservations) with a guaranteed room rate total of $78.04 (AARP/AAA rate). We were given the bill for $85.53 total. I showed the registration guy our emailed quoted sheet, but he could care less. He just told me that "this is the rate today." He told me that they never honor an AARP/AAA rate and that the person who quoted me that rate didn't know what they were doing. I tried to talk and negotiate with this guy, but could see that he could care less. Again, he said "sorry, too bad". This guy had a personality rating of below zero.
Overnight business trip stay
GORDON Hon 05/07/2017 14:29Fairly new & extremely good motel for this area. Have been staying here a couple times a year since it opened several years ago & been very pleased. Until this motel opened, I had driven a long distance to avoid staying in Glendive for about 5 years due to poor quality of motels. This motel & a couple other more recently built new ones were badly needed in Glendive.
Poor customer service but nice beds
Marcia Won 03/07/2017 14:54We stayed here while attending a wedding this past weekend. We have family in Glendive and visit a few times every year. Unfortunately, we will not stay at this hotel again. After having an issue with one of the front desk clerks we tried several times to either contact the manager or have the manager contact us. We were never able to speak with the manager. Front desk associates refused to tell us when the manager worked --they finally told us while checking out the manager only works the night shift--, they would not pass on concerns to the manager either, nor would they give us the managers contact info since the only way to contact the manger was via personal phone. We even tried to call another Astoria hotel and get them to pass info along so the manager would contact us but that never happened. Very poor customer service.
Rooms once cleaned were clean but when we initially checked in and were instructed our room was ready there was sticky stuff on the floor and the counters had crumbs and goopy substance on them. I'm guessing jam?
Breakfast was also not as advertised. For example if you want meat/sausage it is only served every other day because and I quote from the staff "we can't afford it due to customers that cheat us". That kind of comment from the staff further shows they don't think highly of customers. Most of the other wedding guests staying at the Astoria eventually chose to eat breakfast at the diners across the street since breakfast at the hotel was not adequate.
Overall, the rooms are nice once cleaned. Beds are comfortable. If you want a decent breakfast at a hotel in Glendive though with much better customer service stay at the Holiday Inn. It's highly unfortunate we had this experience as we would have stayed there the next time we are in town, but I can honestly say after traveling the world and a good portion of the US I have never had such poor customer service and such a difficult time with staff or contacting management.
On a final note, the lady in front of me checking out had issues with her room as well and wanted to make sure on her way back through Montana (since she was pre-booked) she did not receive the same room. The front desk's response was, "Yeah, we keep mentioning that needs to be fixed, but it hasn't been done". Yet they still book the room.
Nightly stop
Steve Oon 27/06/2017 15:32Stayed for one night while traveling hotel looks newer and in good shape but needs cleaning. Room had crums of food on floor. Breakfast was free but was nothing working right. Very poorly run hotel.
Needs new manager.
Nice hotel
James Gon 25/06/2017 11:23The room was very clean and there were no critters. These are the two main criteria I have for hotel rooms. It is a nice hotel and the room was nice. It had a king size bed, a desk, large tv, refrigerator and a microwave and a chair. The bathroom had a deep bathtub. Overall a nice clean room.
However, I there are signs that they are letting it run down. I am making this observation based on the room I was assigned. So, my observations may be limited or not completely accurate for the hotel as a whole. So here are the things I noticed. The room had several places where the paint was scraped off - as if furniture had rub it. The curtains were missing one curtain rod. Also, the bathroom mirror looked like it had hardware removed; it was patched and puttied - yet it wasn't repainted or stained. The air conditioner was very loud and did not put out any cooling. I put a request in at the front desk, but it wasn't looked by maintenance.
The paint could be spotted in about 10 minutes. The bathroom mirror could have be sanded and spotted in fixed in a relatively short amount of time. And a new current rod could easily be replaced. These are simple little fixes that keep a room looking pristine. When simple little things slide, then it becomes the norm. For me, these are warning signs.
So here's the bottom line. The room was clean, the price was right and housekeeping excellent. Would I stay there again. Yes, but with this caveat. I would be keeping an eye on Tripadvisor to see if things improve, decline or stayed status quo. Minor maintenance issues kept me from rating this hotel a five.
