What People are saying

Lovely "Grand Dame" hotel

SanDiegoBeachgalon 12/09/2016 16:40

The Auberge is perfectly situated overlooking the port of Le Lavandou. The rooms are lovely with a lot of room and wonderful port/sea views. Excellent breakfast and a wonderful pool to relax by. The staff, Marianne and Bart, are wonderful and a marvelous addition to a great stay. Thanks for everything!

Oh Dear

I would say this hotel is not quite as bad as some of the other reviews on tripadviser, but it certainly isn't as good as some suggest. the hotel has obviously suffered decades of under-investment, and evidence of money spent to improve things does not always seem to have been spent wisely. The towels, for example, were probably worn out several years ago! There is also evidence of silly cost cutting, reducing cost to the more important detriment of the sort of quality and service one should expect at the cost of staying in this hotel. For example corridor lights on timer switches, and a school canteen like approach to a very meagre breakfast. Guests pick up a tray and then serve themselves to everything available, including fruit juice and coffee from dispensing machines. Overall not the quality of hotel, or standards of service one should expect at the price. But don't blame the staff, who were all evidently trying their best in difficult circumstances. We noted that when we checked out we were not asked whether we had enjoyed the stay.

The location is good, in the centre of Le Lavandou but the consequence that it is a bit noisy at night.

Very noisy at night!

The location of this hotel opposite a club which plays loud music until 3am is not desirable! When we complained to Hotel staff we were offered no alternative room within the hotel and were told that nothing could be done despite all staff recognizing that the loud music was an issue. Single glazed windows in rooms and thin metal fire escapes in the corridors did nothing to alleviate the loud music. If you are staying at this hotel but are sensitive to loud music until 3am in the morning then make sure to agree a quieter room in advance (if there are any).

Stuck in a Time Warp

The hotel is in a great position with an easy walk to the harbour, beaches and restaurants. It is quiet at night and offers lovely views. There is a good pool and pleasant garden area.
The rooms are small with dated facilities and our bathroom was in desperate need of refurbishment with a lot of visible mould. The small balcony had great views but was overlooked from both sides by adjoining rooms and because their balconies projected further out than ours offered a view into our room and bed. The occupants to the left smoked incessantly with the fumes coming in our direction and into our room if the door was open. The occupants to the right were noisy into the early hours which did not make for a good nights sleep.

Don't be fooled!

Unless you are one of the few that get the renovated rooms featured on their website, your actual room will be awful! Pay attention to the negative reviews only (take the time and use google translate to read the non-English reviews). Hair all over the bathroom floor, shower tile covered in mold, towels so threadbare you can see through them, ridiculously lumpy white stucco walls, and worn out plastic patio furniture. The hotel reservation cancelation policy is ridiculously strict and there is no way you are getting out of paying, even if you hate the room. They have put a lot of money into making the lobby and restaurant look nice and apparently renovated a few rooms but the rest of the rooms are disgusting. Maybe you will get lucky and get a renovated room but I wouldn't count on it. Do not ruin your vacation by staying here as you will be very disappointed.
