Very difficult to revieww
travellerNEEnglandon 26/05/2016 08:51I have found this hotel very difficult to review. This hotel seems to have great potential, that has not been achieved. On the face of it the hotel is a beautiful building in a lovely setting, but some aspects of the hotel are poor.
The hotel has adequate parking and the building is impressive, overlooking what could be a lovely garden. One enters the hotel through the well proportioned dining room which has large windows and some original looking features. Then it all takes a downward turn. The reception is a cramped partitoned off area, which leads to a poky, dark staircase and corridor to a very tired looking small room with a very small bathroom. There was an unpleasant musty smell, which was cured by opening the window onto a lovely view across the fields surrounding the auberge.
As other reviewers have commented the sound insulation is poor.
For all of this the beds were comfortable
There are no restaurants within easy walking distance so dinner had to be taken at the auberge. The menu reads well and we were looking forward to a pleasant meal in the impressive dining room. However, our main courses arrived served on cold plates, a consequence of which was cold food. On advising Madame of this, the plates and food were removed for reheating. When they were returned to us the plates were still cold but the food was marginally warmer. This was a great shame, because reheating did not improve my chicken, the dish itself would have been very good expect for this. Why does someone how is obviously a good chef spoil good food by serving it luke warm?
I found my stay disappointing and rather sad, this could be a lovely hotel.
Great food!
Alina Mon 10/04/2016 14:23We only had dinner in their restaurant. The food was very good, the ingredients used were fresh, the service was good, the owners very friendly. Their hamburger was an actual home-made one, it tasted like real meat.
Avoid!
dennisjsmithon 11/08/2014 13:17I have used Logis de France hotels for the past 25 years and have always found them charming, comfortable and with excellent restaurants. I use them because after driving considerable distances across France I just need shower and then a meal in the restaurant without the bother of trying to find a decent eating place in a strange place. I was therefore really annoyed to be informed upon our arrival that the restaurant was closed due to lack of a chef. From other comments I have subsequently read this has been the case for some time. If I had been informed of this situation I would have cancelled our booking and gone elsewhere. As it was 7pm on the busiest Saturday in the French holiday season I decided to stay. I wish I hadn't. Our room was tiny with a sharply sloping roof which caused my head and shoulder to come into contact with it when I used the toilet. The shower was inadequate - the whole unit loose in its fitment at the end of the bath. Neither was there an extractor fan in this en-suite. The bottom flight of stairs was unlit and the entrance dingy.
Let's be positive. The coffee at breakfast was fine.

Like The Shining
croakieson 29/06/2014 12:12We booked this in the hope it was going to be a great first night with a perfect restaurant. Not so. The owner checked us into a minimal, stark room and then disappeared! From then on out we had no contact with anyone and felt we were the only ones in the building! When we went down to try and eat, the restaurant was empty and clearly not open! We were given no warning of this and again couldn't find anyone to help us.
Went into town for dinner. Bed was like sleeping on a mattress from WWII and the shower and bathroom were tiny! Way off the beaten track. Don't bother if you are touring Normandy as it says on web that it is in Cabourg, it's not!
