Lovely location, nice accommodation
Michaelmo2012on 30/03/2015 17:41How would you describe Hotel Auberge des Montauds in Villard de Lans? Well, firstly it is not a hotel in the true sense of the word. The restaurant or more correctly, the dining room is only open Wednesday to Sunday. It is a family run business (The owner said that he was born in the house and he was in his late 50’s). I would say that it is a B&B and a very nice one at that. Do not expect Hilton-style hotel service…in fact don't expect too much at all. The breakfast provided is pretty much “do it yourself” with the usual fare of cereals, teas, toast, breads and fruit. The plus is that they provide home-made Jams which are delicious!
The rooms are small and very basic and rustic in décor. The bed, whilst not a designer bed, is comfortable. The bathroom is divided into 2 sections. Firstly the basin an mirror then the second has a toilet and a quite large shower recess. The shower is good and water very hot. The room and bathroom are very clean.
Auberge des Montauds is set in rural surroundings about 4 kms from the centre of the village. It is extremely quiet and relaxing. I could only imagine that sitting outside in warm sunshine in summer drinking a wine or beer would be lovely. The dining room has a fireplace and would keep the area warm through wintery weather. Each room has adequate heaters and I found I didn't have to wear a coat or jacket inside.
Overall, NOT a star-rated hotel but a very nice B&B well worth a stay…I would recommend a romantic, quiet weekend here would be a treat.
An idyll in the mountains
Hungrybikeron 03/07/2013 21:52Very welcoming despite our late arrival. Pensioner menu was all you could ask - Superb food. Great shower, the only drawback on the room was a rather firm bed which is a matter of taste. Despite being off the beaten track it was not difficult to find.

Albtalhexeon 22/05/2013 16:50We stay here beginning of may with our moto bikes and felt very welcome. Nice rooms, tasty diner and very nice owners. As it was rainy and cold outside we got an extra heater for our room. Motobike found place in a big garage.
Excellent hotel with good access to cross country skiing
kkevinwon 02/01/2012 10:37This is a great hotel with excellent modern rooms and a very good restaurant. Rooms are clean, with modern en-suite bathrooms, digital TV and WiFi (which worked some of the time). The half-board meals were of an excellent standard, with both cheese and desert included for the evening meal. The staff are very friendly. The hotel is the main building in a medieval hamlet overlooking one of the main cross country skiing domains in the region.
Great spot for biking, enjoyed the food and the room
on 27/07/2005 05:30I recently spent a long week-end at the Auberge des Montauds, food was very good served on a big terrasse at lunch time, my room was nicely decorated with wood panels, and the hotel was a perfect spot to go biking, being right by the trails of Bois Barbu.
