What People are saying

Third visit to L' Auberge du Cabestan in four years.

jamesfurzeon 26/06/2016 20:44

Finding ourselves in Brittany with good weather and thus no need to "head South for the sun" we returned to L' Auberge du Cabestan for another 4 nights.
The bed was very comfortable with top quality bedding and the hotel very clean.
Every time we visit we find improvements have been made including a ground floor bedroom for people with disabilities.
Once again we had the choice of either the traditional French breakfast or a visit to a buffet table with a wider choice. The owner also offered scrambled or boiled eggs.
There is a private car park and a south facing terrace to sit with your drinks and enjoy the evening sun .
As ever, the owner and her staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Esquibien is a good centre from which to explore Finestere.
I will submit a report on the restaurant later.

Simple and clean

We had a four-night stay at Auberge du Cabestan. The hotel is basically in front of the church of Esquibien and if you drive it is very easy to find, as there are many signs giving directions along the road, independent of the direction you come from.
The room was fairly spacious and clean. In particular the bathroom was bigger than in comparable hotels. We did not have breakfast; there is a good bakery with cafè on the way from the hotel to the Pointe du Raz, less than one kilometer far away. The hotel has a private, free car park. Free Wifi is available: it was not working well in our room, a bit better in the lobby but the owner said they are working to improve it. The owner speaks excellent English and German.
We think that Auberge du Cabestan is a good basis to explore Audierne and the Pointe du Raz area.

Peacefull and relaxing

We arrived on a motorbike wet and cold, we were given the choice of two rooms we took the one with the bath, deep bath plenty of hot water. Nice wine excellent food. we had a wonderful stay, the proprietor could not do enough for us, but was not intrusive. All in all we had a most relaxing and enjoyable stay for three nights. Didn't want to leave.
The proprietor has an English husband so can speak perfect English.

Two lovely discoveries

We had always seemed to miss out the triangle from Audierne to Point du Raz on our visits to Brittany and decided to rectify it on our recent holiday. We were very glad we did - it must be one of the most attractive parts.
We like to use Tripadvisor to find private owner managed hotels a little out of town and we chose this one for our three night stay. It proved to be an excellent decision.
This is a well maintained and attractive hotel just a short distance out of Audierne. Marie-Noelle is the daughter of the original owners and speaks excellent English. Her partner is English and we enjoyed putting the worlds to right with him over cups of tea. They both made us very welcome and, obviously, have an excellent knowledge of the area which they are happy to share if you ask them. (They even recommended a cake shop 40 miles away towards our ferry port on our departure day and were right that the cakes are excellent). We ate in their restaurant two nights (they are closed Sundays) - excellent meals see review in restaurants section.
Possibly the only down side is that our Superior room was not all that superior - lacking on drawers and shelves, hairdryer and with slightly antiquated bathroom (which Marie intends to update this winter). However the general ambience of the place more than counters this so we are happy to give them 5 all round.

Good to return here.

As we enjoyed our visit last year we booked three nights this June and stayed for 5 nights such was the weather, the beauty of Finestere and the welcoming hospitality given to us by Madam Rintou and her excellent staff.

We were even given the same room overlooking the garden. The accommodation is good and very clean.

The new young lady chef provided very enjoyable meals. The delightful young waitress found that her confident use of English improved every evening.

There is a choice of either the traditional French breakfast or a more substantial one which suited us as we seldom eat at lunchtime. Both are reasonably priced and in line with charges elsewhere so I don't know why others have complained.

The restaurant is gaining popularity with people in the locality so booking may be prudent.

The village is peaceful yet you are only a few minutes drive from Audierne and the beaches.
