What People are saying

Fantastic staff, but detail is poor

Andrew Won 07/07/2017 21:49

We stayed for a couple of nights at the Auberge du Pecheur to attend a wedding. The wedding was a fantastic event and the proceedings ran flawlessly, aided by the staff at the Auberge who are exceptional. On several occasions individual staff members went beyond what could be reasonably expected to ensure our comfort and to help things run smoothly. Well done.

Sadly, as others have observed, there is a side of the Auberge that lets it down. That is attention to detail. We had a super room in the Ooidonk Building, overlooking the river and with most of what we needed to have a great stay. Tea and coffee facilities might have been a nice touch. However the real problem was that the room was superficially clean but on closer examination there was dust on some surfaces. Not on tables or obvious places but, for instance on top of the light switches, along ledges and underneath furniture. Some fittings, light shades for instance, were shabby and needed replacing long ago. At the price point the Auberge trades at this does not even come close to expectations.

The Auberge du Pecheur should be a jewel. Sadly it is more like a cubic zirconium, bright but not the real deal.

Nice hotel at the borders of the Leie

This hotel is a classic hotel in typical style at the borders of the Leie. Service is very friendly. Rooms are traditional are clean and have airco. Bed is very good. Bathroom is small but OK and very clean. Love to go back.

Great, Quiet Hotel but, careful crossing the street

Good hotel, especially for large groups or meetings. Plenty of parking. Beautiful location. Hotel is clean but, a little bit old in terms of the buildings and amenities. But, large rooms, good beds, great service.

Mediocre and expensive - at least quiet

travelnerd73on 09/02/2017 21:35

I have been to this hotel on a business trip. It was a recommendation of my Belgian colleague and said to be a fancy location.
Well, it was sort of fancy - countryside, country-house style, in the richest area of whole Belgium. Consequently, the rooms were expensive and not quite up-to-date (you may be looking for safety locks at the doors and at least digitally controlled radiator, or a fridge).
The staff at the reception was very polite and helpful. The staff in the breakfast room wasn't. In fact they left the impression to be bored by their job - maybe except you belong to the rich guests who use the golf courses around and can afford to have dinner in the restaurant. I really couldn't and had to look for a more reasonable-priced one - I found it in the centre of Gent...
All in all, a good place to have some days of vacation, if you are a rich and enthusiatic golfer. For a business trip to visit a customer inside Gent, there are clearly better locations.

Great food

Michiel Don 23/01/2017 17:57

A few years ago I went to the restaurant Auberge Du Pecheur with a friend of mine and our parents to celebrate the end of the school year. It was the first time I ever went eating there so I didn’t really know what to take. After I looked at the menu for a while I chose the tomato soup as an appetizer and I really liked that soup because it wasn’t to thick or to cold. After the soup it was time for the main dish but I already knew what I was going to take because most of the times I eat spaghetti. The spaghetti was good but it was like most of the spaghetti’s I ate so it wasn’t that good. At the end I wasn’t really hungry anymore but there was still some place for vanilla ice cream and that was surprisingly well. So I could say this restaurant was one of the best places I ate before because of the food but also the great atmosphere.
