Wonderful service, after I had booked the wrong night! So accommodating.
Dave Aon 12/04/2017 01:02My son and I arrived at this centuries old building in the beautiful farming area of Champagne. I had mistakenly booked the wrong night. The young later there shrugged and said "Internet booking" to make it seem like it wasn't my fault. It was late and I was having car issues so I needed to stay here even though I booked the wrong night. The only room available was massive, big enough for a large family but she let me have it for the same rate as the smaller ones.
When we came down for dinner she was in charge of the restaurant. Her English was not great but much better than my French. My son can speak French but I wanted to thank her for her generosity. She was very patient with me.
The dinner and wine was simply amazing. Farm fresh, delicate, and oh so French. Just over 100 Euros for duck, fois gras, aperitif, and a bottle of Chablis.
I'll never forget this place. I thought everything was going to go wrong and it was fantastic. This is what France is all about: beautiful people, outrageous food, and a great coutry.
The countryside drive to Djon through old villages was unforgettable. Brilliant!
A game of two halves
lordlashon 03/12/2016 22:55We booked this hotel as a stopover on our way to Catalonia. Ideally located in a quiet countryside village smelling of cheese. Well, this place is famous for it's cheese. We arrived just after 3pm and was told that our family room had not been serviced but we were allowed to deposit our luggage in the room whilst we wait. Upon entering the room, I found that the booked bedding arrangements were all wrong and informed the staff in reception. Not all the staff could speak English and had to wait for someone to come along that could. It was then implied that I had made a mistake with the booking. I had to show my paperwork to verify the bedding arrangements and only then did they find my booking? We were then shown to a different room that also had not been serviced. Not a good start but it was a hot day and we retired to the bar area for a drink whilst we waited. Got to the bar and waited and waited for a drink. Unfortunately for us, this place also operates a catering service out of the hotel and everyone was busy with preparing an outside event being held somewhere else. After at least 20 minutes, I managed to get the attention of an oncoming shift member of staff who could speak English...yes, result! Our room was made available after 4pm. The room was situated in the annex building which is relatively new. A small room with a few minor problems, toilet roll holder hanging off the wall and electrical socket hanging out exposing live wiring. But, all in all, quite comfortable for a stopover night. The evening meal in the restaurant was very good and good quality (not very good for vegetarians though), service here was excellent. The food and drink is expensive here, they have a monopoly of being the only restaurant in the village. Not too sure about a big dog allowed in the restaurant though? Overall, a nice quiet place that could do well with improvements, a bit of fine tuning say and the old woman who thinks she owns the place... could once in a while, smile for the customers, a welcome smile goes a long way!
Very disappointing
Tony Bon 21/11/2016 10:08Overnight stop over on our way south. Tiny room, electrics hanging out of a/c machine, no hot water in the morning, need I go on? Somewhat indifferent but expensive meal- a Kir royal and a bottle of Sancere blanc, one lamb and a fillet de boeuf and two not home made puddings. Two courses for two people, plus room for €207. Lovely old building with huge potential. Should have been much better. Shame.
Quiet spot wonderful restaurant
propeller999on 27/10/2016 10:56Stopped here on the way back from the South of France. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was at the top of the building overlooking a field with horses lovely view, but no lift so not good for the disabled. Our room was modern and clean not that big with a modern shower room. The shower room seemed not to have been completely cleaned in as much as there was only one clean towel and one on the floor and an open soap, this was soon rectified. We had drinks outside and were served complimentary canapes lovely. Having chosen the 40 euro menu, we had a really lovely evening meal with lots of extras being served. Food was excellent and cheese board amazing. However the wine is very expensive so pushed up our meal bill. Having said that the Cointreau and ice I had served in a brandy glass at 7 euros was very reasonable. All the staff were very attentive but not over the top. Breakfast was also lovely with nice local produce - if you go you must have the honey. only downside was that there were some flies around which staff didn't seem to worry about. WE would definitely return.
Perfect room and cuisine
Jack Oon 22/09/2016 21:36We booked a room on our way back home: perfect room, modern shower and beds. And we decided to have our dinner in the hotel: regional menu is a perfect choice.
We enjoyed a perfect meal (Michelin should try this restaurant !!): fantastic meal !!
