What People are saying

Beautiful Old Town, Good Hotel

Paul Bon 29/08/2015 18:49

Stayed here in an apartment room. V good. Nice hotel, bar, restaurant and staff. Small sauna and gym room.
Lovely "old town" with half timbered buildings- rare to find. Well worth a visit if you are in Westphalia

Clean, but not luxurious and no air conditioning.

Stayed here for one night in a family room with multiple beds. The hotel and room itself was clean, however, none of the rooms have air conditioning which was frustrating since the weather was hot. The rooms have fans in them, but we asked for another one due to the size of the room. The staff was friendly and obliged. Also, the breakfast buffet had enough options and tasted good.

Welcoming and efficient

This was a short, two night stay with two adults and a dog. We were put in a family apartment, which was nice and clean with a little cooking hob and fridge. It's a nice clean hotel, spacious and airy. Comfy beds and clean linen. The bathroom was clean and all the facilities worked fine. It says 3 stars on the door and I think it's good for a 3 star. There's a gym, sauna and solarium but I didn't have time to use them, and the little bar area was nice and quite busy when we checked in on the Friday night. The surrounding area is very quiet, and seemed safe. I walked the dog and found a small woodland area, but apart from that it's just houses. We could hear the main road at night but it was fine for a short stay. Breakfast was good - the usual buffet of assorted cereals, juices, cooked bacon/eggs/sausages, a selection of cheeses, cold meats, croissants and pastries, fruits, the ubiquitous fizzy wine (for breakfast?), all sorts of juices and waters as well as teas or hot chocolates. The coffee was dreadful, but hotel coffee usually is! The lifts & entrance doors don't work before the receptionist gets in at 6.30 or 7am, and the only way out is through the night door, which you might struggle to gain access back through if you're out walking early! The Wifi is free but was very slow on my android phone. The only English TV was BBC World, if you like watching TV in English. All in all not bad for a flying visit!

Simple but good

The name of this hotel suggests a lot but the whole impression is that the place was lifted up in the former DDR and put down where it sits now. Yes, a bit exaggerated but really. Now, is there something wrong here? No, not at all.

The location is a bit unlikely. Not close to the centre, railway-station or anything. But, the old town is just a 10 minute walk. Parkingspace is abundant. How about the rooms: they are large, furniture is new, rooms are a bit empty ..... really a touch of DDR-style. But: there's a fridge, tv and the bathroom is allright. Location is very quiet. Internet is good.

Breakfast is the other east-german experience. The interior comes from the "wirtschaftswunderzeit" and is really cool. You are looking at the 60's and this was a thrill in post-war germany. So, never change that, guys. Breakfast itself is just as good as anywhere else and costs just 5 euro's.

If you want a beer in the evening: the hotel itself has a bar, but you should take the 10-minutes or so walk to the old town where you find an area of nicely restored sachsen-style building with cosy restaurants and bars. German food is cheap and tasty, german beer always great, especially the "Weizen".

Anything else? In Hattingen you can find the "Henrichshuette", a museum now, before a steel production plant. Very impressive and great to walk through. Don't miss it. And of course, there's the ruhr-river and lots of industrial archeologie in the region.

Friendly and value for money option

A large variety of rooms (single, double, huge suites) all with reasonably priced mini bar, tv, etc. Extremely friendly reception and bar staff make this a good place to stay for the single traveller or for a group of colleagues. Breakfast is served between 6 and 10 and offers a good range of fresh fruit, pastries, ham, cheese, eggs, cereals, etc.

Is located within walking distance of the Altstadt

All in all, I relaly enjoyed my stay and recommend to any business traveller
