What People are saying

A good experience!

Mona Fon 04/08/2017 21:16

We stayed for 3 nights in an Ocean Front Blues room (286). The room is modern and spacious, with a very good bed and a nice bathroom with rain shower and double vanity. The balcony is lovely - with great views over the resort and the ocean. Everything is very clean. Dinner at Blues was good. Service at the beach bar was good, but somtimes a bit slow. Reception was helpful with restaurant reservations, and check-in/out was smooth. The activities desk helped us with arranging a day trip to Klein Curacao.
The beaches are lovely, and there are plenty of sun loungers, but limited shade. The hotel states that it is not permitted to "reserve" your spot for later with a towel, but this seems to be common practice, and as far as we could see the hotel does nothing about it (they should!).
Some issues: The room quickly became very damp, with wet floors, when the balcony door was open. The room info states that this can be a problem if aircon is left on, but we turned it off every time door was open, and there still was damp. The bathroom also got very damp when showering - maybe because of no visible ventilation?
Two days before checking in we recived an e-mail requesting us to fill in a check-in form, including info about estimated arrival time. We stated 13.00. Upon arrival we were informed that their check in time was was at 16.00. Had we been informed of that in advance, we could have planned our day better.
All in all we were happy with our stay and will possibly return if we ever revisit Curacao.

Very nice stay!

I stayed in the Octagon so I was happy with my accommodations!! Elvis is amazing and makes you very comfortable there. Nice to everyone and always cheery and informative about the island. Funbini was my choice for shuttle and they were excellent.

A fair value for the money, but a few things to consider

Before jumping in, I want to mention we typically go to adult-only all inclusives, but chose to visit Curacao because we were vacationing in the summer and options for what we typically prefer just weren't available. That out of the way, The Avila Hotel was a fair value for the money but there were a few things to consider.

The negatives:
We stayed in the Blues Wing, had an oceanfront view, in one of their newly upgraded rooms. Our AC wasn't working properly (the dial was missing), so that got replaced but the unit still wasn't putting out cold air. A 2nd service call and it was moderately better, but we think it needed more freon so we reluctantly dealt with it. They weren't keen on changing our room. The shower had a poor design - and a slow drain. It had a wonderful rain shower fixture with great water pressure, but the water went everywhere. We used every towel we had to mop the floor. Storage for clothes was limited to just a closet, no drawers. At peak times during lunch, the onsite restaurant service got very slow. The hotel offers beach memberships & day passes, so that might account for the overflow.

Now to the positives:
Our room (#289) was on the 2nd floor and offered a nice overhead view of the manmade reef surrounding the hotel. We saw all kinds of fish from above and occasionally fed them. Housekeeping service was great, left us plentiful supplies. We were greeted with a bottle of chilled prosecco.

The 3 story tower off the front of the Blues wing offered nice views of the entire property - it gets windy up there, so hold onto your hat!

The beach was nice - spacious, always able to grab a lounger. Shade was limited, so you want to get out early and claim your spot. Our weather was amazing every day!

On-site snorkeling was awesome - saw tons of fish including barracudas!

The pool was well-maintained, spacious. A lot of kids, but they were having fun and were well-behaved.

The grounds, though small, were nicely maintained. At night, strings of lights would illuminate the beach area - it looked charming! There was a wedding while we were there, so one area of the beach was reserved for them.

The food & drink:
We opted for the breakfast package at the Cafe, which was offered at a discount on our arrival. Typical selections, plentiful. Good service.

Lunch at the Belle Terrace Restaurant - selections were limited but tasty. Service would get very slow (1.5 hours for lunch) which included waiting for our check.

Dinner at the Belle Terrace Restaurant - AMAZING! Fantastic, well-crafted menu. We had barracuda, which was incredible. Nice wine selection. Price was very reasonable, service was wonderful.

The Beach Bar - ELVIS is the MAN! Super fun, friendly service. Elvis is quite the mixologist, creating all kinds of delicious drinks. Very attentive!!

Blues Bar:
Great food, wonderful service and fabulous entertainment! We chatted with 2 of the guys in the band - super friendly and incredibly talented. Serious jazz cats!

Reception:
Very nice, accommodating. They made dinner reservations for us a few times off the property. Directed us to security who helped us grab a bus to get downtown to purchase local beers at the Boulevard Market (so we didn't run our tab up too high!)

All in all, we had a nice time but were just a little frustrated with the shortcomings we dealt with our room. I left these very same concerns on my comment card. I hope they take them seriously and fix the AC for the next couple & do something about that shower.

Great experience at Avila

A wonderful hotel with an unique character. With the free airport shuttle we got a quick ride to the hotel. I got to say, the hotel looks very charming and neat. The reason we booked this one was because of the private beach. But i got to admit we spent more time in the infinity pool;) A really nice relaxing pool to stay after the tours we did on the island.
Last thing i want to mention is the diner at Avila. Normally I am more into going to town to try some local food.. But eating at Avila is worth trying, the food is really fresh and there are cozy spots to sit. A very comfortable place to eat with your girlfriend.

If you are going to Curacao, Avila is definately a good choice.

Feels like coming home!

Loved staying at Avila Hotel again. Wonderful place, absolutely friendly and helpful staff. The only 2 small minuses I can think of, were the cleaning (that was not always done really well) and the food at La Belle Alliance restaurant. I thought it was a bit overpriced for the value. The Blues restaurant however, was great!
I would definitely visit again and recommend the Avila hotel!!
