I had like always a great time at Axel, one of my favorite hotels and staff, so friendly and helpfull. I like the location, easy to get there from the airport.
I will be back in November, already booked :)

A hotel for the "Sex-ier" side of life...

Robbie_and_Dennison 12/08/2017 03:52

The hotel sits on the edge of the gay neighborhood and as such is geared toward the gay side of life including the sex-ier side.

For the most part gay men stay here, though we did see one family, with two children, checking out when we were checking in...

The rooms and halls resemble a gay bathhouse or sauna, very dark and all black walls.

We stayed in a suite, which has a separate bedroom. The rooms are geared to singles or couples, or friends that don't mind seeing their room-mate taking a shower... The bathroom had 2-sinks a tub with shower and a shower stall. The toilet is separated by a sliding door. When in the tub or shower you can see into the bedroom due to the red glass tinted wall separating the rooms. We liked the shampoo and bodywash, though I don't remember the brand. Towels are OK, nothing to write home about...

The bed was comfortable and the sheets clean and crisp.

House keeping is on par with a 2-3 star hotel, even though we tipped, one day they did not leave fresh bath towels and another did not leave fresh hand towels, even though we left them on the floor and they took them.

The walls are all painted black in the rooms also, and the red glow from the bathroom adds to the bathhouse/sauna feel.

The gym and hot-tub on the top floor is clothing optional and there were several guys without clothes on looking for the sex-ier side of life throughout our stay.

The hotel offers the typical Do Not Disturb door signs, but also offer "Please Disturb" if you are looking for a little extra action. They also supply "please make up room" door tags. So there is no mistaking what you want when you hang a "Please Disturb" sign on your door handle and leave your door unlocked.

Breakfast is nothing special and costs 14 Euro per person per day, we skipped it and went to the little pastry shop just across the street for our daily coffee and pastry.

The hotel is in an excellent location for walking to the local gay bars as well as many gay and gay friendly restaurants and cafes.

The staff most of the time seems indifferent, which is what we expect and find while in Germany...

We have stayed here twice so know what to expect and think as long as you go with an open eye and mind you wont have a bad time...

I gave Axel Hotel a go during a music festival, having never stayed in any of the other locations. Overall, the hotel was decent, but not great value considering the price. Location-wise, the hotel is about an hour from Schönefeld, close to transport links and close to chill local gay bars and spots to eat, so no complaints there.

In the hotel itself (we had a junior suite for our stay) the furnishings were decent but nothing to write home about. The see-through shower and bathtub were...interesting lol (just a head's up in case you're staying with a friend like I was!), but overall the room was fine. The bed was a bit meh, again considering the price and suite designation, but again not bad enough to derail the stay overall. Room upkeep was a taaaaad of a problem, with the room being quite dusty in spots when we arrived and the room supplies (hotel toiletries) not being refreshed during our stay. But obvs if you bring your own, no harm done.

Overall, the stay was fine, the hotel somewhat novel but probably would pick a different spot for future visits. If you want a bit more of a lively atmosphere, try the gay hostel quite close to this location.

Pros: The hotel staff was nice and helpful; rooms were spacious (we had a junior suite by accident, in fairness); the gym is decent actually and the equipment is pretty good; quite good location in relation to the local gayborhood :)

Cons: Room was a bit dusty; bed was meh quality (squeaky :O ); restocking supplies in the room didn't happen during our stay (three days); Not really great value considering the price. The nearby gay hostel is better IMO, but depends on your tastes (and how important it is having your own room ;) )

OK Gaystay!

Wellknown for its name. Friendly staff and good breakfast and great location.
The rooms are a bit dark and I missed places to put my things and no wardrobes for clothes. The bathrroms are nice and the beds are comfortable.
The relax on the rooftop are very nice but last time I was there it was very Dirty if u looked Deep. Just cleaned om the Surface. But nevertheless it is Ok overall for me.

Nice stay!

Very uncomplicated hotel! Friendly people. Hotel has a very beautiful rooftop.
The rooms are very modern, maybe a little bit dark - but with style!
They really care about gay people :-)
I will spend another time there.
