BEDBUGS!!!!!!

IrelandElaine717on 11/04/2013 11:53

We arrived in port blair and headed here off the back of the lonely planet recommendation.
The manager was friendly and staff showed us the room, which was at first glance your average basic room that we were looking for...doube bed, tv, attached bathroom.

However it all went downhill at bed time. The pillows were soooooo hard and uncomfortable and the bed clothes were smelly. We were laying on the bed watching TV when suddenly we realised we were absolutely surrounded by bedbugs, big and small!!! I caught a couple of these disgusting creatures and went down to reception to complain. There were 3 men asleep on the floor who I woke. They seemed to not really care and kept saying we could change room in the morning as they had no more free rooms, i persisted and was not taking no for an answer so the guy got out a bottle of what looked like window cleaner and said he would spray them!! (as if that would kill them!!). I then said i will find another hotel and i would not stay here, he then made a phonecall and said come here in 10 minutes with your bags. After 10 minutes the manager was present and magically found us a free room! we checked the bed and were satisfied there were no bedbugs here so we stayed.

In fairness, the manager was very apologetic about this situation and he even gave us a discount for our trouble. We did stay a second night in the non-infested room and it was pleasent enough.
Overall, this place seems to be pot luck so you better hope you dont get a room with bed bugs.

Basic

We stayed at Azad Lodge for 2 nights in January 2012. We paid 400 Rupees for a double room with bathroom and tv. The room wasn't very clean and did not have a mosquito net, but i guess you can't expect much for this price. The owner is very friendly and is willing to negotiate on the room price if you stay for several days.

Reasonable

The hotel is just basic but I don't know if you can find something better for this price in Port Blair . All rooms have an AC for the rate 800rs per night but if you don't need it they can switch it off and the rate would be 600rs.
The location is great, hotel is right in the middle of Aberdeen Bazaar. But you better not open the window cause you will get the terrible view.
Owner is a good and very helpful.

Not a bad spot for your one night in P.B.

ALH is located down a narrow lane just off a main street in Port Blair.

Our room with fan, tv, double bed and bathroom was about 400R if I remember rightly. It was clean and the only downside was the stinky stream/sewer running behind.

The owner was friendly and welcoming.

It's very centrally located, close to everything you might need and a short rickshaw ride from the Anthropology museum (recommended) and the airport.
