excellent property, refined modern rooms, verandas on beach, nice bar-restaurant. quiet, relaxed, casual yet upscale, good breakfasts, right in the beach, which is quiet and peaceful, uncrowded. parking is easy on street, many good restaurants just a few minutes walk down the main road. wonderful place to quietly relax and unwind. easy drive from the airport/rent a car.

Azure is a privately run what Id call a small quaint (In a very good way) hotel. The Azure is not a big chain place, if that's what you like then the Azure is not for you. However, if your like us, we like charm and comfort, it doesn't have to be new. Each room has it's own personal touch. The owner Mike and his wife are artists, and their artistic and personal touch can been seen all around the Azure. I believe each room has a kitchenette. This is great especially if you want to just relax and spend the day just sunning and swimming at the beach. You will find plenty umbrella lounges just a few feet from your room and the water. The Azure is right on Simpson Bay close to the center, the water here is crystal clear warm and oh so inviting. I would have to say that for St Maarteen Simpson Bay is one of if not the best beach on the island. Its clean great sand and not crowded. Bring plenty of sun screen.

Mike is very helpful on making arrangements for you for day trips or to suggest a restaurant to your liking.
Don't worry that the Azure is near the airport, you do hear the planes, but this is during the day so it won't disturb your sleep

As far as location, St Maarten is a small island so really everything is fairly close. There is a small neighborhood market a very short walk from the Azure. I recommend this if you just want a few quick things. Only 3 minutes away is a much larger market, and if you want more say some steaks and you want to prepare more meals at home then there is a large supermarket on the way to Philipsburg. Food is expensive on St Maarten be prepared, however there are plenty of places where you can get a great meal at an affordable price even down right cheap. They a LO LO in Grand Case. A huge meal grill cooked in the local way and example is the combo. a quarter chicken plus a half rack of ribs, slaw, salad, rice johnnie cakes and more all for only $11 bucks.
Also at the Azure free phone and wi fi.

A little suggestion if your going to have sandwiches hot dogs or burgers, there is a gas grill for you to use on site. I would suggest you bring little condiment packs , mustard ketchup, mayo etc with you splenda or stevia as well this will save you the price of a meal if you bring them with you. they are pricey in the store. Same with sunscreen

Awesome Place to stay in Simpson Bay

What a great spot and location. The owner, Mike, was so accommodating from the time we checked in till we left. Highly recommend this quaint spot right on the beach. We stayed in the Caribbean Room, clean, charming and amazing. Can't wait to go back! I hope the renovation doesn't take away from the charm of this adorable, awesome place! See you in March hopefully. Thanks for a great 5 days! Debbie and Jay

This hotel is my fiance and I's all-time favorite hotel. Michael was wonderful from the time we asked about the reservation, to the service at the hotel, and has sent wonderful follow-up emails since we left in October. We are currently trying to decide if we will be making a return trip this fall.

The beach is absolutely beautiful and feels very secluded from the hustle and bustle. The water was a bit choppy on the week we went but still very enjoyable. There is no pool but honestly, I do not think one will ever be needed due to everything else on that wonderful property.

We stayed in the Garden Suite which was perfect for the both of us. The AC was cool and the kitchenette came in very handy on a couple of the nights where we were to tired to leave. The bed/bedding were extremely comfortable and it helped us have the most relaxing nights sleep we had had in months.

On the final day of our trip, my fiance proposed on the beach at the Azure. We were all alone for the most of the day and had the beach to ourselves when he asked the question. We will definitely be back in years to come and I cannot wait to see what the renovations will be to improve this already amazing hotel.

Here I sit in front of the Azure, praying the renovation does not take away from its charm. It is slow season so parking is not an issue, I would think twice about renting if I hadn't already, I don't want to leave this chair! The beach is clean , the sand is soft, I feel safe and secure. The rooms are homey. As for poor reviews....I laugh and wonder what their bathrooms look like? Even the cleaning lady has an off day . Our 2 bedroom garden room is very clean and stocked with everything I need to cook if the spirit moves me. The king size bed is very comfortable. As for personal attention, I'm on vacation not a guided retreat.....The owner let us know who to contact if there were problems. I don't need every minute attention. If you want a butler, La Samana is waiting for your credit card it's just down the road. If you want to relax, and feel at home .......this is your place.
