Antoinette Lon 20/06/2017 15:31Okay for a hostel. Kinda glad this wasn't the first hostel I experienced.
The guy at the front desk was friendly and let me know all rules. Fair warning, NO elevator and the rooms are small. Think of a closet big enough to hold one bunk bed wall-to-wall. Luckily my roomie was nice and mindful of space.
Also, there is no ceiling. Meaning, the entire 3rd floor was one giant room separated by walls, hallways, and doors. You could easily toss something into the room next to you and I could hear my neighbors ENTIRE conversation. In addition, it's really easy to accidently slam the doors.
Bathrooms were clean, but I was slightly creeped out at the frosted windows. You are literally naked without showing details. I could see the woman in the stall next to me. This also is the same case with the toilets!
Still, I'd stay again, but only for dirt cheap

Courtney Bon 30/05/2017 21:06Yeah it can be noisy, but it's a good deal for your money and right next to the Macy St station getting you easily into Manhattan. If you're looking to spend a lot of time in your hostel relaxing, maybe don't stay here. There wasn't much of an opportunity to socialize with people, so if you're looking for that, maybe look somewhere else.
Website photos are misleading
heskevandoornenon 29/05/2017 17:46THE WALLS DO NOT REACH THE CEILING! so you hear everyone all of the time. you'll hear people's alarms, coughs, conversations, everything. Ridiculous. If you like this price & neighbohood, just stay in an Airbnb nearby.
A restful stay at International Student Residence
Lynne Non 22/05/2017 11:47The International Student Residence is a little far from NYC downtown but accessible by Metro. Although the hostel does not offer complimentary breakfast, guests can use the lounge and mess halls located in the first building of the premises. The hostel rooms are small but the bunk beds are comfortable. As the wall partitions are not attached to the main ceilings, it can be noisy at times when other occupants slam the doors of their rooms and the shared bathrooms. The narrow, simple and very clean corridors are lit with good lights till before 11:00 pm. As basic as it is, this hostel will suit budget backpackers who are frugal and minimalists.
