Tired and In Need of the Wrecking Ball

1mountain on 19/11/2017 15:32

Spent over a week at the Ballsbridge and it is one tired, sad facility. The photos you see have got to be shopped as in reality everything besides the actual lobby appears as a dingy 1970's office building. The only upside was the super pleasant/accommodating staff. Rooms are very dated, carpet stained here and there. Breakfast is simply underwhelming. Had to iron my shirts Sunday night for meetings on Monday, someone had eaten their dinner on the ironing board and evidently dripped grease on it. Upon ironing, went straight into the shirts. It was then I noticed that there was rice stuck to the ironing stand and sauce dried on the leg. I took it to the front desk, they apologetically said I could have the shirts back WEDNESDAY!!! 3 day turn-around on cleaning is relatively silly. No on-site fitness facility, however for euro 7.50 you can buy a pass to one a 5 min walk away.

Is not worth it?

Book s this hotel as a night away from the norm for a bit of rest and for the break. For. 4* I was well disappointed! The room are very outdated, but staff made up for that disappointment. Won’t be staying in this €170 a night hotel. Got have got the same room in a good B&B at a quarter the price in Dublin.

Ok

I have stayed here before and the last time was a better experience . The hotel itself is central but quite hard to find if you are driving, as it is on a busy road and set back. The park is €12 a night, so I was glad I didn't stay for any longer than one night. If you want to leave the hotel by car and return later you have to get a temporary pass out of car park, which is a pain queuing up at reception again. Also both room door cards decided to not work hours after arrival, yet another queue at reception. The staff less friendly/courteous this time around and hotel obviously older. It superficially looks ok but on closer inspection is in need of some TLC. The shower was nice and warm but half the water did flow through the bath tap. There is a bar/restaurant within hotel, called Raglans, we didn't eat here but it seemed lively with a nice atmosphere. The breakfast is an extra charge of €12 per person, there was a lot of choice (help yourself) gluten free products, cheese, ham, cereals, yogurt, fruit, breads, full cooked breakfast, which was nice. The toasters took forever to toast bread, I got bored and released bread just warm. Probably not worth €12 for me but if you can eat loads in the morning it maybe an option. The quality of food was acceptable. Would I stay here again, in this hotel they were leaflets advertising hotels with Irish dancing of an evening so probably give one of them a go instead.

Nice hotel but a total rip off

Staff were extremely friendly. Room on the 5th floor was neat and comfortable if a bit dated but was right next to the lift and there seems to be no sound proofing so were treated to the sound of the lift going up and down all night. Biggest problem though was we were charged €12 to park in the hotels open air car park overnight ( despite paying the hotels high price to stay there ) and the first we knew of this is when we checked in and were already parked in the car park. €12 each for breakfast was also extremely steep compared to any other hotel I have used. A total rip off and shows the rip off mentality some of our hotels have

Love this hotel

This was our 3rd visit, we love the hotel and the area, some good restaurants in the area and the Dart is so handy for travel into Dublin. The prices have crept up over the years, but worth the extra in my opinion. The rooms in the Annex are our preferred option.
