What People are saying

Weekend in London

Jessica L on 12/11/2017 12:51

My partner and I only stayed for one night as we were just visiting London for a weekend. We arrived to the hotel 8.30pm and finished our stay the next day at 11am (latest check-out time). So this review is based on that.

Check-in
Got confused as there are two buildings across the road from each other and there were no CLEAR signs to let you know which building is has the main reception. At check-in, Emmanuel the receptionist is very friendly but there was an elderly lady who also runs the business told me to not make any noise.

Room
My room was on the fourth floor and the only way to get there is to climb steep stairs! I was slightly concerned about emergency access. Luckily it we didn’t have our kids with us otherwise it’ll be exhausting to carry your kids and bags up to the fourth floor. Probably best to request a room not so high up if you have kids or cannot go up many flights of stairs.
The room I stayed on was just a normal double room you would get in a standard residential home with small standing shower & toilet ensuite but the sink is outside the ensuite just in the bedroom. Towels provided but you would have to bring all your usual cosmetics. Nice built in single wardrobe, comfortable beds and tea/coffee making facilities available. The TV is just a little bit bigger than my iPad; at least there is one in the room! Plenty of electric sockets. Everything all clean and tidy.

Breakfast
Opens at 6.30am-8.30am on the ground floor next to reception. I got there about 7.30am and got a table straight away where - rush hour around 8am there was a queue for breakfast. Only eight tables in a small dining room so I had to share my table with other guests which I didn’t mind. Cereal, milk etc all out as a buffet. Small portion of English breakfast served which was freshly cooked and tasted nice.

Check-out
Quick and easy! Just give the key to reception and your done!

Not worth the money

I know hotels in London are expensive and small.
Last time we had stayed in Paddington at Days Inn and had a decent experience.
This time we chose Balmoral House Hotel, which is next door, hoping for something similar. But we were disappointed.
Multiple issues to speak of
1) The rooms are tiny and the bathrooms and shower area have barely standing room.
2) There are no lifts and we were allocated rooms on the 3rd floor
3) The breakfast area is small and it is only from 6.30-8.30; invariably there is a long queue. Also the bfast staff were a bit rude; one of them admonished my 2 year boy bcos he was crying by saying 'I have never seen a troublesome kid like this'.
4) On one of the days, the power supply to the room was cut off at around 12 midnight and we had to get ready in the morning using the flashlight from our mobile phone.
The main plus point was the very helpful guy at the reception.
And due to him, i am going with a 2-star rating.

Bed Bugs

Doug M on 13/10/2017 06:02

We booked into this hotel Sept 1st 2017 for four nights. The second night our friend in Room #16 woke up early morning, with well over one hundred bites all over his body. Staff gave them a different room on the first floor. On checking we found bed bugs in our room #15 also, but no bites, so we also got another room. Hotel staff were helpful but owners seemed more worried about their online reputation and the money they would lose, than with the plight of the customers. On checking earlier reviews after the visit we saw that these rooms had been infested before. We found the bugs on the moldings and in the blankets but could not convince owner that this was the problem. The hotel is well situated with friendly staff but would not recommend them because of management attitude toward the problem. Who knows if they will properly fix the situation?

Very good experience

This hotel is just terrific. It is inexpensive for London but clean, staff are wonderful and could not do more to help. It is basic but if you are looking for something right next to Paddington on a low budget you cannot go wrong. Would happily stay again.

alot nicerplaces for same price

manager was horrible, never spoke or gave us eye contact, guy on reception was great, really helpful, hes wasted working there. don't bother waiting for breakfast, served 6.30-8.30. big queue to be seated, ate each morning in local cafes.
