Never got inside

inna jon 27/06/2017 22:54

Booked this B&B though hotels.com. I've never stayed at a b&b before and was really excited after reading all the reviews about how cute it was!

I got a message from the B&B though hotels.com asking what time I'm arriving and to book airport transportation. I replied that I will be arriving in the late afternoon and will take the train into the city from the airport. I got no reply. When my flight was delayed I sent another message that I will be late. Again no reply.

When I got there I had no idea what floor it was on because the doorbell wasn't marked properly. I ended up ringing a different b&b. No one was there and a man who lived in the building was kind enough to let me in and call the number on my reservation. The landlord said he will be there in 30.

The hallway had no AC, and it was miserably hot. After an hour I couldn't wait anymore after traveling all day, and I rebooked elsewhere. On my way out I ran into the landlord, who got upset that I was leaving because he claimed he had been there for 2 hours... I got very upset because I actually was there for 2 hours, waiting in the heat by the door. Never again!

Location is NOT everything!

Yes, it's convenient but that doesn't mean much if your back aches after a sleepless night. Mattresses were appalling, both on double and single bed (we had a triple room). Very noisy though in fairness that's not the B&B's fault, that was the price paid for staying in the area near campo di fiore.

Bathroom old and barely clean, and last night there was no hot water which did not bode well for early departure the next day (luckily the hot water was back on by the morning). The breakfast is best skipped--the plates, and broken, cracked cups were not clean, but I guess as the pastries were all those 'sealed in plastic for eternity' types it was still reasonably hygienic. Better to go out for a cappuccino and croissant downstairs--there are lots of wonderful bars and bakeries just outside the door (the plus side of being in the area). Sure, the price is good, but I think next time will spend 20 euros more to get a decent room with a real bed.

When in Rome...

A Via Dei Giubbonari 23 is not for everyone, but if you appreciate being immersed in the essense that is Rome, this is the place to stay. We made reservations for both the beginning, and the end of our trip to Italy, and so had different experiences based on the location of the room. Both of them were good. The rooms are simple, clean, comfortable and functional, and the price made it incredibly affordable. But it was the view, the night revelers walking the street, and the music flowing in through the iron-wrought balconey that made it magical for us. That we were also an easy walk to most of the attractions in Rome was icing on the cake. The breakfast was simple, and often shared with fellow guests from across the world. It was also offered by a lovely Romanian woman who was delightful, and helpful. We would stay there again in a heartbeat.

A Bad Experience

I booked two single rooms with bath for my sister and myself and got confirmation that we could get them.
However, on arrival it turned out that what we got was one double room with an adjoining single room which gave access to the bathroom. This single room was furnished with a bed and a non-working refrigerator - and that was it.
We both need to go to the bathroom during the night. Consequently the one sleeping in the thoroughfare room was disturbed.
At the price we paid for this arragement we could easily have had a 3-star hotel double room in the same neighbourhood.
What we got was a very basic B&B double room with the world's worst breakfast.
It should further be noticed that access to the B&B was quite difficult because the bell was out of order during our stay.

Great place

We stayed im triple room for 5 nighta. Good location lots of food and shop around, within walking distance of many attractions or you can use transport easily. The area had a great atmosphere., although it could be noisy at night this was no issue for us Staff were lovely and my bad italian was not a barrier as Elena spoke very good english. We chose to get the pick up from airport, well worth it after long haul flaight from nz .
