We had such trouble finding this place but when we did it was truly fantastic. The view from the terrace is stunning, and breakfast is served there every morning. The breakfast is great - kind of starchy but it is good. Croissants, apples, yogurt, cake and more! They gave us two espressos as well. It was a great start today. The location is very nice, there's a beautiful view from every room. It's quiet, there's heat and AC, the windows are large, the bathroom is clean and just for us! The staff is nice and attentive. I would come back - I love it here!

Stayed at this lovely B&B for one night on our way down to Sorrento from Rome.

I chose this place due to the views across the bay from the terrace and it did not disappoint. Also had a sea view from our room as well which was good.

A great place to relax with spacious rooms and lots of communal living areas to relax and just enjoy the views.

Staff were excellent and contacted me via email ahead of the visit with excellent directions and also via text on the day of check in. Also recommended local restaurants with discounts as well.

Breakfast is basic but nice, mainly pastries and bread but enough of us to enjoy.

Only downside is the drive to find the premises, thought very narrow streets and limited car parking. However, this is just due to the location in the old town and staff directions did help us find it.

Local shops, bars, restaurants all within walking distance, down steep steps but no issue and great to walk in the footsteps of the Romans!

Overall a lovely stay and I would recommend for a overnight stop or even a few days exploring the area.

Il Vecchio e il Mare, Gaeta: Panoramic Terrace View!

The historic center of Gaeta is were Il Veccio e Il Mare B&B is located, next to the last remaining Bourbon castle as described by our super nice host, Cristiano. The massive Aragonese-Angevine castle now a property of the municipality of Gaeta, is used for conferences and exhibitions. The B&B is at an exceptional location with a panoramic view of the harbor and within walking distance of lungomare restaurants and businesses. Our host said the tourist season in Gaeta
runs from April to November w/ some December holiday business.
We stayed here for one night during January 2017.
The place is very roomy, radiant heat, tile floors-nice-but cold in the winter. We could imagine this B&B during warmer times of the year. The terrace is spacious, set up for enjoying the photogenic view w/ a glassed in patio/outdoor room. In the morning Cristiano set out a buffet with excellent fruit juice, pastries, yogurt, dry cereal, fruit and coffee of our choice. ‘Would like to return to explore more of the historic center and the local seafood!

Stunning view, friendly and charming

A very charming B&B located on top of Gaeta with a stunning view overlooking the old town, the harbour, the bay and the surrounding mountains. A cup of espresso in the morning on the veranda is worth the price itself! Breakfast however is basic and consists mostly of sweet pastries. We missed some healthy alternatives like cheese, ham and wholegrain bread. Rooms where very charming and clean, with fresh towels and sheets every third day. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and made us feel at home at once upon arrival. A great advantage for us as a family of five, was the spacious living room and veranda where we could relax in beautiful surroundings. Thank you to Cristiano and Chiara for making our visit in Gaeta so pleasant. We can highly recommend B&B Il Vecchio and will stay there again if going back to Gaeta.

Great place for the right expectation. Friendly owner, fantastic view and open terrace. A nice, compact city with history of it's own, interesting things to find around it. especially on religious matters.
