Returning to this place is not an option

We arrived at the hotel alongside 2 other couples, it took over 30 min to be acknowledged and showed to our rooms, unwanted upgrade to a suite with an enclosed kitchen advising cannot be used unless asked for permission. The sofa covers (initially white in colour) were now embedded in cigarette smoke and stained, absolutely disgusting! The bathroom could use a clean up as the ventilation is non existent and the pipes are emanating a foul odour. We had access to the terrace which had the view of the buildings surrounding us and had to pay cash only at check out. The breakfast was alright but they do not throw away the leftovers from the previous day as I've noticed traces of tomato seeds on slices of cheese and the tomatoes were served intact, you draw your conclusion from here. The lady at the desk was somewhat helpful but at some point during our chat to her, the business phone rang, the customer was put on speaker making us unwanted witnesses to a conversation, the gentleman was inquiring on parking on the premises or on surrounding areas and the lady at the desk did nothing but mocking and being evasive in her reply to him. My partner and I was embarrassed and believe the lack of interest she showed us on the phone a few hours earlier when we called to say we were running late as we were slightly behind schedule in our trip, must have treated with the same ignorance and lack of manners. I wouldn't return there, it was by far the worst of the many B&B's we've stayed in over the last 12 months. The location is fine, however not much to do in Ortigia, so, in hindsight, more in Taormina, less in Syracuse.
This is a charming B & B in the heart of Ortiega

Comfortable and compact room, helpful staff and great location, in walking distance of everything in Ortiega. There is not an elevator though and it can be a challenge for anyone with mobility problems. Staff are very helpful in shlepping suitcases up and down the stairs. And ground floor rooms are available if booked.
Elegant and spacious accommodation in historic area of Syracuse

Initially difficult to find, this lovely family- run B and B is adjacent to the Church of San Filippo. Quietly situated in the historic area of Ortygia, it is nevertheless a few minutes' walk from the wonderful Syracuse cathedral square and many restaurants and bars. Our top floor accommodation was in fact three rooms plus a spacious terrace with a view of the sea over nearby rooftops. The old building has been recently and tastefully renovated. The English- speaking owner was helpful on our arrival with suggestions for places to visit. Delicious breakfasts! Negatives are the lack of a lift and the fact that you have to pay in cash on departure.
Honeymoon excellence in the stunning Ortigia

We were in Ortigia for our honeymoon and they upgraded us to a room with a beautiful 360 degree roof terrace, with 3 views of the sea and even Etna in the distance. A very high standard room, perfect location and a really good breakfast too with excellent service throughout our stay. Ortigia itself is simply stunning, with lots of great bars and restaurants. Would very highly recommend La Via della Giudecca and Ortigia. Loved them both. Thank you!!
Good Location

We stayed here for two nights on a recent tour of Sicily. The B&B is in an excellent location for exploring Ortigia and Siracusa but, we thought, quite expensive for what it offered compared to other places we stayed in. We had a room on the top floor as we had requested a sea view - and we had two outside areas - one directly outside our rooms and one on the roof top with sea views. While the location and outside areas were good, I felt the inside areas needed more attention - particularly the bathroom. The bathroom was slightly smelly as it had very small windows to the outside and was in a very enclosed space so ventilation was clearly an issue. There were also areas of dust on the tiles that hadn't been cleaned for a very long time. Had the price been lower, I would have no complaints but, given that we paid a lot for the accommodation, I would have expected better. However, the breakfasts were good and the staff were friendly.
