Honest review

propete1983on 03/04/2016 23:15

I'll be honest, it was not the worst B&B nor was it the best. It's very good for the price although there were some annoying points.

In general it's perfectly adequate and I would recommend it to the right sort of person (not too fussy and only wants somewhere to sleep and take a simple breakfast)

The decor is striking and tasteful yet a little dated now and the layout is a little odd. If you have the same room as we did (with the separate bathroom) you have to take a set of 4 or 5 keys with another key for just the bathroom. A little odd and confusing at first but comfortable in the knowledge it's very secure.

So some points to consider:

Location - Absolutely brilliant and soo convenient for walking or the metro. Literally 5 minutes from great restaurants, the Vatican and castel sant angelo! With the proximity to the main part of Rome it's brilliant and is only a 25 to 30 minute walk to the main attractions.

Room - as mentioned above, quirky with tasteful if a little dated decor. The room was very clean (except for the carpet which had hair and crumbs on it until day 2 or 3), spacious enough and excellent aircon. The whole apartment during our stay was very quiet and private although on the last night the room next to us was full of noisy guests (showering and using hairdryers at 11.30pm) which was bad because the walls are very thin.

Bathroom - Nice size and reasonable facilities but disappointing there was no switch on the toilet (still functional but looks terrible) and no holder for the shower (meaning you have to hold it yourself which is quite annoying). There was also no shower door so the water just splashes everywhere.

Staff - Nice enough and very helpful. Seems like nothing is too much trouble (when they are in the apartment) but there is a limited menu shall we say so they are severely restricted

Breakfast - although included we actually found it pretty bad. Croissants and bread were nice but that's literally it (although you can't really moan for the price). It's by no mean Mediterranean or Continental given (as mentioned in other reviews) that the the ham and cheese on offer is exceptionally cheap, one choice (burger cheese slice only) and out of a packet. Coffee and fruit juices are excellent though.

So on the whole the B&B is quirky but generally ok for its purpose and is excellently located with a limited breakfast and a few annoying points. Ideal for a budget few days in the best city in the world!

Worst place ever!

The owner was so rude, we got there at night and she didn't let us in because "it was too late" but when we made the reservation there was nothing saying we have to get there before 18:00 and we let her know our plane was late, so we needed to look for another hotel midnight with the baggages, and at the next day the owner charge full price of the reservation.
Very bad attitude and service!!!

don't book and expect to stay here!!

booked with budget.com in January 2015 to stay here in October. several times i emailed sweet dreams to find out about an airport transfer but never got a response. a month before we were due to arrive have now been told that the b&b needed my bank card details of which i provided only to still be told that my booking was now cancelled. i still have had no proper explanation as to why and Sweet Dreams have not responded to my emails. whilst i can't comment on the actual accommodation i can tell you that they were certainly not in any way helpful to me. i have also noticed that they have now priced the same dates i was suppose to be going at approx £100 more for the same dates

The best place to stay in Rome so far (after 5 visits)

We've got room with separate bathroom (only for our use). It may not look convenient especially when you get sick, but we were able to manage that.
In the end of our stay we were asked to move to the other room with the bathroom inside, so that was an excellent option.

Breakfast - that was a perfect start each day. Geronimo is very kind and he always had an answer for our needs and requests. Want coffee? Here it is. Milk maybe? Same thing. Geronimo is a golden host!
Beside his marvelous service there was a wide choice of things to eat - not just typical bread and jam!
The appartment is on the higher floor, but there is an elevator.
It's fairly close to the Ottaviano Metro station and even closer (on the same street) to bus #81 (awesome bus by the way, you can use it to reach many of the landmarks in Rome).
If we come back to Rome we will defenitelly ask Veronica if she has free rooms!
