A superb experience
Jane Don 30/07/2017 08:14This wonderful B&B is in an old building with the entrance on a quiet lane (with a delightful trompe l'oeil painting at the end) and is very well located only 10 minutes walk from the Grand Place and with good restaurants nearby. Our spacious room (named Bolero) was beautiful, dramatic and whimsical, showcasing the artistic talent of co-owner Catherine, whose work is displayed in her gallery round the corner. She is a warm, welcoming and helpful host. The owners aren't actually on the premises but are at the gallery and readily available.
Back to our gorgeous room. It was white and bright, with pink and turquoise touches, including wonderful hand-painted roses trailed across one wall and on the ceiling. Pretty furniture, including a couch and a little table and chairs, picked up these colours. The bed was big and comfy. Louvered doors opened to a wonderful old pedestal basin in the little bathroom.
Breakfast in a cheery bright-turquoise little kitchen is another treat. Trays with each room's name (there seemed to be only 3 or 4 rooms on our floor) are waiting for you in the frig, on which are perfectly wrapped (in pink and while gingham paper) parcels of cheese and prosciutto, and brown eggs perched in cups ready for cooking. On the bench await cereals, exotic French teas, fresh tasty loaves and the most flaky croissants ever, and on the shared table gorgeous rich jams (eg pear, apple and date) and spreads.
There's no lift but only one flight of steep stairs.
We heartily recommend this unique, characterful and lovely place.
Great value for money
Timo Son 19/06/2017 16:25Great place to stay in he heart of the busy Brussels. Friendly owners and overall a enjoyable visit. Breakfast was a good kick-start for the day. Will come back when again in Brussels. Book early as this place seems to be taken most of the time.
Simply Excellent!
Paul Won 31/05/2017 16:14We stayed for two nights and this place is a quirky sweet place to stay. If you like generic chain hotels then it maybe isn't for you but it's great fun as breakfast is relaxed and you can take things in your own time. Being English we bought our own tea bags as they don't have English Breakfast tea! Someone said they couldn't work out how to work the coffee machine but they must have been complete morons as it's only a Nescafé senseo so hardly rocket science! The owners are very lovely. You get an email a few days before explaining how to check and they take time to show you around, give you a tour guide etc. We will definitely stay here again when we come back - it's central to all Grand Place so great location.
Felt like home...❤️
Bagajeron 21/05/2017 13:05Just returned from a 3-Night stay at wonderful Taptoe. Rented the duplex, which considered of lovely bedroom with great bed, own bath and most charming own diningroom with little kitchen. Each morning there was a bag of fresh bread outside our door and we took it upstairs to the dining room where the rest of our plentiful breakfast was ready in the refrigerator. A great way to start the day in peace and quiet. Outside the door Brussels was at your feet and you could walk to everything.
We were welcomed by the warmest, nicest host Olivier who was very attentive, informative and service minded. This place is a gem. ❤️❤️❤️
Great quiet location close to historic center
mmanchon 09/04/2017 10:44We stayed 4 nights and had a very comfortable stay. The rooms are large, the beds are comfortable, and the towels are soft and absorbent.
The B &B is located on a side street, so it is very quiet. But it is only a 10 minute walk to the Central Station or to the Grand Place. There are dozens of cafes, shops, and restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk.
The breakfasts included croissants and baguette fresh from the bakery, cold cuts, juice, coffee, and yogurt. It's self-service, but your tray is laid out for you. They also provide you with an egg, but you have to cook it.
We used the central location of the Taptoe to explore Brussels and to take day trips to Bruges (a must-see) and Antwerp...both of which are an hour or so via the trains from Central Station.
Be aware that there is no elevator. Also, while there is wireless internet, there is no television. We like to watch BBC or CNN international as we are getting ready for our day. All in all, it was a great visit.
