What People are saying

Excellent Water Sports and Service

Ana Hon 13/08/2017 20:25

The Resort in general is amazing, with a great selection of all inclusive water sports!! Greatly recommend!!

Enrique was my Captain trainer for the catamaran and it was great, his a great instructor and all fun, I was able to take my party with me being the captain thanks to Enrique.

On the other they also have great service being assisted by Gabriela, exceptional and always willing to work with you on setting appointments for water sports.
Oh and must I say she is hilarious!! Great charisma and very funny.

In love with Mexico!

Incredible Water Sports and Skilled Staff

If you like adventure, you will love the water sports at Barcelo Maya Caribe. The surf rider was amazing. The beautiful beach, pristine facilities, nice pier, free equipment (windsurf, catamaran, snorkeling, kayak) and THE STAFF make it superior to other area resorts. You could not find better staff anywhere who make your vacation easy, fun and enjoyable. We would especially like to recognize and thank the very talented and brave sailors - Jose, Martin, Francisco, Miguel, and Cesar. Our heroes! When the weather had a sudden turn with an unexpected storm, they quickly sprang to action to help four of our group bring their catamaran in. They made it look easy, but we know the talent it took to quickly sail out in high winds and rain, jump on a different Hobie, and skillfully get all back safe and sound. We greatly appreciate their bravery and the great memories on this trip. We will return!

Beautiful

This resort is beautiful and enormous. Staff was very nice and spoke pretty good english. The beach...simply beautiful. Its was cleaned everyday. I don't think I saw a single piece of garbage anywhere.

The only reason I gave this a 4 star was because of the food. Its was OK but not great. HUGE variety at the buffets but it was just OK. the restaurants were very good but we could only get 3 reservations.

I would def go back.

Very good, a few improvements would make it amazing

Overall, it was a very good trip. I wanted to love this place, the pictures are amazing and I was so ready to fall in love. We are a family of 4, we took our 9 and 7 year olds with us. We've done the craziness of Disneyworld many times and were looking for a relaxing vacation. I did a TON of research beforehand and was very prepared on what to expect before going. If you're reading this, you probably have as well, so I am going to skip to what I thought needed improvement:

-The food. This was the weakest aspect for me, and it was resort wide. The breakfast buffet was good but lunch and dinner were not. The poolside grills were also solidly mediocre. I am not a "foodie" and wasn't expecting 5-star quality. I was actually surprised at the lack of Mexican food. It's like they were trying to recreate things Americans and Europeans would like and missed the mark. Ala carte meals were much better, but reservations can be hard to get.

-Communication: I don't mean the language barrier. Everyone at the front desk speaks good English. But trying to get accurate information out of anyone was way harder than it should have been. I wanted to know what the show schedule would be for the week so we could plan our evenings, no one knew. I wanted to know the dinner rotation at the buffet, no one knew. There is an app with daily activities listed, but I found it completely inaccurate. Something as simple as a daily times guide like cruise ships use would have been great.

-Evening activities: Once the sun goes down, there isn't much going on. The shows are kind of late, especially if you have kids. We spent our nights after dinner in our room reading or playing games. Which was fine, but just keep that in mind.

-TV: I know, I know "You don't go to Mexico to watch TV." We had two days of all-day rain and being able to turn on a movie would have been great. The TV's are nice 42 inch flat screens. But if you don't speak Spanish there is nothing to watch. An on-demand or pay-per-view movie selection would have been nice. I know it's Mexico, and Spanish is the national language, but pretty much all the guests at the resort were from the US or Canada.

-Wifi: We were booked in a club premium room so we got this for free. They give you a little card with a password that you have to enter pretty much anytime you want to use the wifi, which was annoying.

Overall, we had a good time. The resort is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. Everything was immaculately cleaned and maintained. We were in one of the renovated club premium rooms and it was great. AC got nice and cold to keep the humidity at bay. The pools were amazing and I have never seen a beach that gorgeous. I didn't even mind the pay-for activities because it kept those things from being too busy and you can always skip them.
