What People are saying

A cosy and confortable hotel in Basel downtown

Jean_Delteilon 30/04/2017 10:31

Located in the very centre of Basel near to Claraplatz - a hub for public transportation. The Basilisk Hotel can be described as simple, cosy and confortable. Rooms are "relatively" small but there is enough space if you are not on business and they are quiet. Room and bathroom are very clean. Breakfast buffet is good , the müesli I had was excellent. Staff is friendly and price is reasonnable, so it is a good deal.

Fabulous Family run B&B -Hotel

This is the place you want to use before you are getting on a river cruise on the Rhine.
I stayed about two weeks and did lots of
Trips to France and Germany from here.
Ideal for Christmas markets in the area.
They're Breakfast Buffet is Continental but of good quality.
I love the very friendly staff here.
It's a 3 star hotel so don't expect 5 star rooms but your super Central.

Great Location & Friendly, Helpful Service

This was a nice, somewhat unimpressive hotel at first sight. Appearances, however, can be misleading!
It is a 3 star hotel in a clean and convenient location. A good ten minute walk takes us to the Central Market area where farmers from around the region come to sell their produce. My wife and I walked over to the place i.e. Central Market twice on both days of our stay in Basel.
We bought freshly grilled sausages from a stall holder and fruits from another stall holder. They could converse in English and accepted both Swiss Francs or Euro.
The hotel also offered a decent continental breakfast at 10 Swiss Francs per person.
The room we got was quite big but it had no air-conditioner! They did, however, provide a fan.
The room was quite noisy though. We could hear guests above us walking about quite heavily at night. This was quite a bother for us.
The hotel manager or the front office manager ( a lady ) was most efficient, friendly and helpful throughout our 2 day stay. She even provided us with Mobility Tickets which allowed us to use public transport in the city and surrounding areas on a complimentary basis throughout our 2 day stay. This was an unexpected bonus. The city buses and trams were ultra modern and clean.

convenient for trams and shops

Hotel pictures are spot on, dont expect anything more. reasonable stay though to me appeared expensive or perhaps thats standard across Switzerland. Was not overly impressed by staff though pleasant enough at times. average vote for average stay, nothing out of the ordinary although one thing, its conveniently near tram stop!

What was I thinking

Traveller-935on 10/07/2016 15:20

Ok, it's good value for money I'll give you that but otherwise unless the entire city is booked out this is probably not the best place for you.

Clearly passed it's prime, both common areas and rooms, and in heavy need of some TLC. Breakfast didn't look great so I passed.

One mitigating factor is the location which is pretty good, very close to the city centre with lots of restaurants within walking distance.
