I regretfully admit that I booked this hotel through booking.com. I usually use TripAdvisor and will continue to do so in the future. After booking, I arrived approximately 10 minutes later. Although booking.com said that I was the last room booked and it was full, in fact it looked like I would be the only guest at this hotel. It literally appears to be from the show and movie Bates Motel. The woman at the desk was rude and condescending. She literally threw a registration form for me to complete. I asked if they had a washer and dryer after looking around. To my chagrin they did not. I apologized and said that I would have to cancel. She literally started screaming at me.

What hotel in the 21st century does not have access to a washer and dryer?

Do yourself a favor, there are many quality hotels in the Williamsburg area.

Additionally, the reviews from booking.com upon which I based my decision were glowing. Immediately prior to writing this review, I read TripAdvisor reviews and these were much more in line with my findings

Centrally Located

I found The Bassett to be very centrally located only 5-10 minutes from Colonial Williamsburg, Water Country, and several restaurants. A couple of them were recommended by the manager and were very tasty. Tip: Blaze Pizza is a little farther (10-15 minutes away in New Town) but is a great meal and has a BOGO coupon on pg.46 of Williamsburg Magazine. The manager was right - great value...

I stayed this property recently. they have very nice rooms!( why pay more to franchise property??? :) I found very safe and quiet place! Front desk Manager is very professional and very good person, knowledgeable with very good customer service, he gave me various opportunities to see different rooms! All were neat and clean!! old property, but well maintained! We will come back again!

My friends and I booked this motel for the price and the location. We arrived around 9pm after a day at Busch Gardens. When we pulled in it was very dark and a man was sitting outside smoking while staring at us. We checked in at the front desk and went to go see the room... The man was still watching us. We got into the room and were disgusted! There was human hair everywhere and the phone didn't work. There was a connecting door to another room which didn't seem too secure. The whole place gave off a vibe of it being a drug den or a place for services to be exchanged (hooker hotel). Needless to say we did not feel safe staying here. We went to the front desk and told the man working that we were not staying due to feeling unsafe and the room being dirty and outdated (the tile walls were taped together). He told us we could not get a refund and seemed shocked we were feeling unsafe. He told us there had not been any recent incidents and that the man staring at us is super nice and picks up litter?! He then proceeded to tell us that if we really didn't feel safe, since we were "Three young white girls" we could call the police and have them drive by a few times to ensure we were ok during the night. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! Lost $60 to this disgusting place!

Awful Customer Service

I had a reservation at the Bassett Motel, and we have had severe flooding in our area two nights prior to our scheduled arrival. Therefore, I requested a cancellation and a refund over 24 hours before we were to check-in. My credit card had been charged 3 days prior to our arrival, and the motel refused our request for a refund. They would not listen to the fact we had an emergency and were unable to travel due to the flooding. It seemed to be all about keeping the money with no consideration for our situation. Beware of making a reservation at this motel ahead of your arrival.
