Two days was quite enough...

We booked a 2 day stay with their all inclusive offer, and let's just say you get what you pay for.
This hotel is old and in desperate need of a makeover. Rooms were clean but worn down, shower head was leaking and when trying to call the front desk we also realized the phone was broken.
All inclusive included a buffet 3 times a day, nothing was out of the ordinary and once again a proof that you get what you pay for. Food was fresh though.
It was our first time with an all inclusive deal and it is very unlikely we will be trying that again.
On the positive side, we met nothing but smiling and helpful staff. Not enough for us to come back though.

Good budget all-inclusive resort

This is not a typical UAE 5 star resort. The grounds itself are a bit dated, but our room was recently refurbished and modern with all the amenties. While the resort isn't 5 star, it has everything you need for a weekend budget gettaway from the city. They are one of the few resorts with an all-inclusive package, as is one of the cheapest. They have buffet breakfast lunch and dinner which was good. Swim up pool bar, separate swimming area for kids and a nice beach. There is always music playing outside and was lively. People were having a good time and the service was always good and friendly.
There is a spa on sitte as well as some night clubs but we did not go as they were additional cost.
I would definitely go back again as I don't need a full frills hotel when I want to kick back and relax and not have to worry about dressing up.

Disappointing

The hotel is old and dated. While the offer is for 'all-inclusive' there are significant restrictions on this such as finishing at 11pm and food only being available in a buffet restaurant for certain times during the day. Selection was poor, quality was ok, staff were friendly and helpful. Not an enjoyable stay

Staff are the Saviours of this hotel!

This is listed as a 4* hotel but the tired facade and strange 'all inclusive' system where the only late bar (Zulus - open from 5pm - 3am), the only coffee place on site, ice creams (on sale at the main pool) and cocktails (apart from 3) are NOT part of the all inclusive package, suggest it is way below this!

It's the most bizarre holiday I've ever had and smacks of trying to get additional money from the 'trapped' guests. I say 'trapped' because unless you book an excursion or take a cab to the local malls (they have shops like Matalan, WHSmith, La Senza, McDonalds, H&M etc along with Baskin Robbins who will charge you a cool £15 for 2 ice creams - I kid you not!) there is literally nothing else in the vicinity or nowhere to walk to. However, we went for our 25th wedding anniversary and were upgraded immediately, had a massive cake delivered that night, were given slippers for the room, had towel animals made for 4 days and had fresh flower petals strewn on our mat too - they really did make us feel very special.

The food is lovely and the puddings are complete works of art - compliments to the Chef who creates excellent choices and delicious meals, three times a day. The serving staff are fabulous too - particularly Azi who has a wide smile that lights up her entire face. She is hardworking, efficient, professional, personable and (in my opinion) deserving of a promotion.

The Coconut Grove beach bar is the place to go after dinner each day (it is open during the day from 10am too but as not many people use the beach - max 5 sets of people at any time during our 15 days and sometimes it was just us!) Sunil and Sidath are both amazing assets of the hotel here. They both work the crowd and remember people and their drink choices constantly. They smile constantly, joke, play music (and ask if you have a favourite track they can play for you) whilst making sure everyone is having a great time. Everyone does when either of these two are on the bar, or even better, when both are on it! They are friendly, courteous, efficient, extremely hardworking and saviours of our time here - we are not natural 'bar dwellers' or heavy drinkers but these two entice you to stay and keep returning despite the fact that you cannot get a cocktail or fresh fruit juices unless you 'upgrade' your all inclusive package to an additional 'all inclusive' for 149 Dirhams (about £40) per night - 6pm - 9pm. In addition to this, if you don't like Amstel beer, but you'd like a beer, you will need to 'take advantage' of their 'special offer' of 4 bottled beers for an additional 99 Dirhams (about £25). As I said earlier, it is the weirdest 'all inclusive' holiday I have ever been on and it smacks of attempting to get extra money from the customers who have already paid for their 'all inclusive' holiday.

If you are serious about staying here, you should note that late July / August isn't the best time to travel - the temperature was up in the mid 40's almost constantly and only dropped to 39 degrees at 3am! The sea was 36 degrees - hotter than I have my bath! and the pool 32 degrees, so there is literally no respite from the heat unless you want to spend your time in your room with the air conditioning on! The hotel is situated an hour from Dubai (or two, if, like us, your driver got lost!) and it will cost you about £40 each way to go on your own to visit the centre and look at big buildings! A word to the wise here - it is MUCH hotter in Dubai than it is in Al Hamra by the beach! The hotel offers a trip to Dubai for about £100 each but you are rushed from place to place and then given 2 hours to explore the Mall and eat. Strangely, the hotel will not supply you with a take away / packed lunch for your day trip and neither will the travel company - make sure you take plenty of water with you - this isn't included either and you will need it!

Every weekend (Thursday night to Saturday afternoon), the hotel is opened up to local people and their families. This brings a nice mix of cultures together but it also means a LOT of noise, rubbish being left around (including used nappies left outside of doors) and children running (literally) around the restaurant turning off the fridges and being watched (but not stopped) by their parents. Such a shame but the two weekends we were there, it happened both times so I know it isn't a rare occurrence.

The hotel becomes aThomas Cook hotel as from November which should help to reinstate this to a 4* hotel and deal with some potential health and safety areas (bare wires by the jacuzzi at Waikiki pool; large holes in the floor of the jacuzzi, hot coals left unattended in a metal container on the side of the pathway every evening - these are used for the Shisha Pipes, uneven paving leading into the beach area and partly hidden step stones in the sand on the beach by the bar area (dangerous of a night time when the only light is on the bar) to name but a few.)

I believe that a Company is only as good as its assets and the assets in this hotel are definitely the staff. Azi, Sidath and Sunil are the three brightly shining stars of this place and, in my opinion really deserve to be recognised and given a promotion for their work ethic and customer service alone. If we went back to this hotel, it would be because of these people alone.
