What People are saying

Nice hotel, grumpy staff

Tilly Hon 10/07/2017 13:13

A big group of us stayed here for a few nights and we were all happy with the hotel, food and rooms. The rooms could do with a repaint but not a big problem.
The food was fine, although the buns for the vegetable burgers were rock solid and inedible.
What let the hotel down was the staff. They were grumpy and seeing as we were spending a great deal of the money in the bar and on food, they could have been more welcoming.
Another note is that we were all fighting over the iron and ironing board. Perhaps having a few available would be good.
Despite all this, I would go back if I was in the area.

50/50 Experience

Stayed here for 4 days on business

Rooms are big enough. You have tea coffee and biscuits supplied daily. 2 bottles of water supplied on my 1st night but these didn't get replenished at all during my other 3 night stay.

Toilets are large enough supplied with good towels and soap dispensers on the wall at the bath and sink unfortunately the sink dispenser was empty for my entire stay.

Bed is comfy and has good linen. Rooms are heated by electric heater (none in the bathroom) as it's -1 outside the room can take a while to heat up which doesn't help when I leave for work and the heating is switched off on my return. Room also has a built in hairdryer and a very weird shaped wardrobe that the coat hangers are at an angle which poses a problem when hanging clothes up.

Food
Breakfast is good can order what you want cooked wise has a small continental however it's only served 7.30-9am so if you want a lay in and later breakfast it's not ideal.

Dinner is 6-8pm they told me when I checked in. I ate the 1st night and wasn't impressed kinda pub grub style. So ate out two nights and last night I decided to eat in again. Arrived back at the hotel at 7.10 to be told sorry as you ate out the other days we didn't think that you'd be eating in so the chefs away already and cooking has stopped. So I simply said I'll go out then thanks. To which the 2nd gentleman offered to cook me a quick meal. My big question is this is a hotel people will stop off when traveling to have a meal so what kind of impression do they get to pop in for food to find the chefs left for the day?

Other downside is no double glazing and the passing traffic all night is very very loud, walls are very thin and could hear the gentleman next door snoring for 2 nights solid. Also due to no double glazing most of the hotel is very chilly and at the moment the temp outside is -1.

All in all it served its purpose for a destination to sleep but I am unsure if I would revisit. So I'd have to say I am 50/50 on my experience at Beansheaf.

We were greeted by friendly staff and were pleased with our ground floor room with a large bed and extra facilities e.g. bottles of water as well as usual tea, coffee and biscuits.
The lounge/breakfast room was comfortable, which also doubled up as the restaurant in the evenings which included a bar. The food choice was very good and served nicely.
Although it is situated 2.5 miles outside Pickering, there is a bus stop virtually outside the hotel travelling to Whitby in one direction and Leeds in the other. Which was very handy to use with our free bus passes. So we could leave the car in their large car park. We would be happy to stay here again and would recommend it to others.
