What People are saying

Lunch - Fantastic Service

TravellingL85on 14/08/2017 23:24

We decided to have lunch in the Bear Hotel as we had witnessed their great service when passing through for an event. The service is obviously consistently high as we also got great service.

The staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. When we decided we wanted to move table just after they had laid ours - no bother. Highchair - not a problem. Free of charge salad for pre-weaned baby - of course.

Baby changing facilities in the ladies - although a little tight.

The food was also lovely, and extremely filling! We had burgers/toasted sandwiches and they kept us going all day!

Lots of choice of places to sit, and in a great location.

We will be going back.

Great Staff - Awfull Restaurant

Celia Bon 03/08/2017 12:10

Came for our annual stay at The Bear for my birthday this time. The staff were great as they usually are & our meal in the Bistro was spot on!! We've been coming here for about 17 years & we do like the cozy feel of this hotel & we have very happy memories of several functions/dinners with lovely food & entertainment to. But sadly this is no longer the case. The restaurant is a dowdy, miserable room, which looks totally unloved. The cheap chairs & tables make it look very tatty indeed. The carpet is filthy. The staff were run ragged in there on Sunday morning & had only one chef. One or two of the staff did make some mistakes for which they apologised immediately. But you know how some members of the public can be so rude & ignorant & gave the young staff a hard time. So we gave them a few kind words of encouragement. The management should make sure that there is enough staff to cope with the amount of covers for breakfast. There was a conference on that weekend, so they were very busy. The chef who working on the Monday morning really does need to perfect his soft poached eggs!! Bullets that's all I'll say! Then there are the rooms. We stayed in the four poster room, No 5. such a small bed! Neither is it comfortable. Two nights & our backs was fit to break. They really need to re think these rooms as they are looking very tatty now. Please keep the wonderful charm of this place but give it a freshen up please!! Also the table which was used for a private meal in one of the little function rooms at the front of the hotel, this was Sunday lunch time, was still not cleared when we went up to our room at 9.00pm that night. That reflects badly on the staff & the hotel. The lounge is not made inviting at all to guests either. We turned on the lamps to sit in there but the furniture looked as though it had been thrown in with no thought at all! Come on guys, there's so much competition out there, you need to raise your game. Not sure if we will be back next year........those beds!

Great Stay

I stayed overnight after a business meal. Single room with an amazing bed. Had everything I needed ensuite, large fluffy towels, even an iron and ironing board. Quiet overnight and lovely breakfast available until 10am

Stop off en route to centerparcs

This hotel is in a lovely position facing the market place in Devizes. There is a private car park at the back.
The room was extremely comfy and we ate in the restaurant in the evening. The food was delicious and the waiting staff were very friendly and helpful.
The next morning we went down for breakfast and the choice was excellent. I have stayed in 5 star hotels which were nowhere near as nice and friendly as the staff in The Bear hotel.
The reception and bar staff were so kind and friendly too.
I will definitely stay there again!
