What People are saying

B&B

We liked the old charm of the place. Kitchen had nice coffee to use. Matress was old and as hard as a table, but the owner was friendly and helpfull to replace it. He also helped us with luggage transport when we left. We loved San Gimignano!

To be avoided. Disappointing stay.

There are not many pros about this choice, apart from a decent wi-fi connection and a convenient location (walking distance to SMN train station). The cons are numerous:
- Don’t be fooled with the hotel description. This is not a B&B, but rather a room inside a 2nd floor flat (6 room capacity) in an old building.
- There’s no check-in so you’ll need to call the number provided post-booking to inform you arrived. The property manager is not fluent in English and will provide you with only basic information about your stay.
- By on-the-go breakfast they mean 1 packaged croissant, 1 pack of toasts, peach jam and 1 bottle of water (only given on the first day) per person. There’s a coffee machine outside the rooms accessible to all hosts and a supermarket cake to share. Needless to say, you may end up eating none of it.
- Our room was equipped with a TV screen and A/C but they didn’t work. We raised the issue to the property manager via SMS, but received no response.
- When we arrived, we were asked to pay the city tax in cash. We didn’t have enough money, so we were told to pay it the day after and that someone would be around to collect the money. That didn’t happen so we left it for the last day. The day before our departure, they left a rude hand-written message to “not forgive the payment” (ipsis verbis).
We would advise any guests to avoid B&B Cassia, unless they’re looking for a cheap hostel-type of stay. Florence is beautiful and this stay may tarnish your view of it.

In case you are not exigent enough

Not a hotel but a Bed & Breakfast. In fact the breakfast is just very poor. It's true there's no reception. In our case we had to wait 30 min. after making a call from our Spanish number (expensive). Then the girl came with her little son and explained everything in English. We had a double not cosy room. It was the only time we saw her in 3 days. Then the next morning another girl came and charged us the price plus the bloody municipal tax. Toilet is not private. There's a cleaning service. Location is not the best, more constructions in the area than people. It's 25 min. walking to Duomo. Cassia is just another example of how difficult is to find a proper acommodation in la Bella Italia.

Nice

Warm welcome on arrival. Room basic but clean and comfortable. Breakfast minimal but kettle, fridge and coffee maker, available outside the room. Shared toilet/shower room. B&B is 20-25 min walk from train station. Fairly busy road during the night.

Not much you can fault this place on

Stayed here early March 2016. We got here around 11am so we managed to catch the cleaner on her rounds and had no issues checking in, but we heard several people being stranded out on the street on arrival because they would buzz the floor but no one was there, so they were stood out in the cold for an hour, so I really strongly advise you to plan your travel so you get here between 10am and midday, because the cleaning lady comes between these times every day without fail, so you'll avoid the awkward lockout. The breakfast is croissants, biscotti toast with jam and coffee or tea. We personally eat healthier breakfast so we bought our own cereals and usually kept the croissants etc for dessert that night. The kettle and teabags, milk etc is in good supply and its the only place in Italy I've stayed where you can make your own cup of tea any time of the day without having to buy it or go to a cafe, so that was really good. There's a shared bathroom which pools water on the floor quite badly but as long as you have your trusty thongs to wear in the bathroom at all times you'll navigate the water easily, as well as of course avoid catching anything from other guests. The b&b is located a bit further out of the CBD than desirable but we looked at it as an opportunity to force ourselves to walk a few kms each day into the city and back again. I can't give any public transport tips for the area because we never used any in our week in Florence, except 1 bus out to a Medici villa, but you honestly won't need any, it's a nice little walk into town. Overall I would recommend this place - it was dirt cheap and a nice quaint little place to come back to each night.
