Best place to stay in Catania

They offer big, clean, nice rooms with air-conditioning in very center location for very reasonable price.
Helpful staff, good breakfast.
Wi-fi works properly.
It's the best choice in this price range.

Terrible! Dirty and we saw a mouse!!!

My friend and I were placed at this B&B because the one we were supposed to stay at supposedly had sustained damages due to heavy rains. The other B&B said they had secured a spot for us at B&B Civitas. On good faith I stated that was fine.

We arrived quite late - around 10:30ish or so - and the host was nice. He showed us our room and the breakfast room and then left.

The first thing we did was a bed check (3 beds - one double and two twins) and the bedspreads for all were very dirty and stained...with what...I'd rather not guess. The top sheet and bedsheets were stained as well with the exception of one small area. So we decided to turn the double bedsheets around and when we removed it we discovered BLOOD on the mattress cover at the foot of the bed. That is when we should have called the travel website where I booked the original B&B and left but we had been traveling for over 7 hours and were tired. We took out the blankets we purchased on our flight to Italy and laid them on the bed.

We went into the bathroom and the floor was covered in hair...not ours. We made the decision to not even shower and to sleep in the same clothes we were wearing.

While we were sitting on top of our own blankets on the bed...calling other hotels to see if they had availability for us that night...that's when I saw it. A mouse in the room!! I screamed a few times and we each grabbed our bags and ran out of there.

My friend and I were horrified!! I tried calling the B&B's number but nothing. Then I called the travel company and after 45 mins or so we were on our way to the hotel they booked for us.

My two cents...would not recommend staying here. If I could rate this 0 out of 5 I would be unfortunately Tripadvisor forces you to select at least 1 out of 5.

Great Location in the heart of Catania

Great location, right down the street from the Doumo square. Walking distance to sights, restaurants, shopping and the port. Rooms were very spacious and breakfast was a nice variety, but mainly sweets. Hosts were super friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean. Bathrooms on suite, and ok. They have limited on site secured parking for only 5 Euros a day, but you need to reserve. We rented from Avis at the port and they let us park there for free so we didn't use this. Our first night was in a room on the street and there was a lot of noise until 2pm as the street is very lively in the evenings. We moved to an inner room the next night which was super quiet. The view of the courtyard was not nice, but we prefer quiet. Make sure you are definite and communicate your arrival time and any delays so the hosts will meet you.

Spacious and Clean

There's nothing fancy with this B&B but it's certainly a good deal with very spacious, quiet and clean rooms with comfortable beds. The location is ideal for walking. The only thing keeping this from 4 stars was the fact they advertised free parking (a criteria I was searching for); however, they only had street parking, which had we needed daytime parking would NOT have been free. They also advertised free wi-fi, but our room had no wi-fi. I'd definitely stay here again, though!

Great value in Catania

I stayed at this B&B in June 2014. Found it through Trip Advisor, and it met my expectations. Hotel is in a great location, just a few blocks walk from the main piazza in Catania (the basalt elephant). When walking to find this hotel, you need to LOOK UP, because the sign is above the door, and it's not obvious. The doorbell didn't work, so I needed to wait until someone with a key walked in. The entrance is up a staircase. I was traveling solo, and I was assigned a gigantic room (one with three beds; one double and two singles) - I think it's in one of the photos on their web site. I was not on the main street, so for me, this was a peaceful and quiet place. Breakfast was standard, staff were very helpful. No one that I met, however, spoke very good English, and my Italian is lacking. We pretty much communicated through hand gestures and this worked well. Very inexpensive.
