Just arrived at the Belle cour Russell square after a long journey from Cardiff. Would have loved to have had a shower but there wasn't a towel I sight. I tried 3 times to call the emergency number I the book provided and there was no answer and No one has called me back. This is really apauling as this could be a real emergency. Room us very small. Can't wait to leave tommorow. Very bad value for money.

Experience went well up until a point. I have 2 major criticisms.
1. Room was way too hot. The radiator was off and the only way to cool the place down was to open the window, which we couldn't leave open for too long because it was a very cold night.
2. It seems like they never wash those big red pillows seen on the bed in pictures. I am very allergic to dust/dust mites, and in the night I had a very bad reaction which completely disturbed my sleep. As soon as I took the pillow away I was fine. This is complete unacceptable.

We read review on Trip Advisor about this hotel & we're worried that we will have a bad experience with our stay.
But it turns out that the hotel is better than we expect it to be. They already renovate the interior & the room is quite lovely, the bathroom is clean and we have not encounter any stain on our bed sheet
The room is not spacious but overall compensate with what we pay for

The photographs on the website are extremely misleading. The room, and furnishings, are more like those in a hostel or student accommodation. The floor is tiled with highly shiny floor tiles and so very slippery when wet; the staircase to the room is uneven, with narrow steps, and also shiny and slippery. I was staying on the second floor with my daughter - who was on crutches - and so this was a nightmare. The room was noisy - I could hear everything from the room next door and above; it is also single glazed, and with no net curtains so not at all private, as it is overlooked by offices. Only two bath towels were provided, no hand towels. The shower was tepid on my first morning, and the water in the sink fired out in bursts. Tea/coffee was provided and a tv, as well as an ironing board and iron. The self check was straight forward although it is alarming that the desk isn't manned other than from 12noon - 6pm, as should your room key fail to work, you'd have to presumably phone the number and hang around outside. As a female I wouldn't want to do this in the dark.
I wouldn't stay here again. It's overpriced and I didn't feel safe. It's a good location, but that's it.

A few things to consider, this hotel is not manned through the night, there is a mobile number in case of emergency. My room was the first room on the ground floor, nearest the main door. The view from the room is quite vile, there is a photo already been placed on trip advisor showing the back of a house/yard of dark dank moss and wet brick. The room itself is tired and run down furniture and accessories. Overall it looks clean enough but delve deeper and it's not that clean. Cheap I guess for London but not a particularly a great place to stay. Have stayed in many other small independent hotels that are better, cleaner and modern.
