I'd rather sleep on a park bench...
Bear_SN75on 28/05/2017 22:32What I liked: The location of this property to the Riva, ferry port and Diocletian's Palace is superb.
What I didn't like? Where to start...
The hotel breakfast is extremely unappetising and the main breakfast room is brown and dark, so you have to start early to get a spot outside on the terrace.
The '24hr' reception wasn't manned 3 of the 5 times I went to it (2 of those desperately wanting to change rooms). My first night, I came back to a pitch-black stairwell and was frightened out of my skin when I heard a snort come from a booth, where I imagine (hope) it was the male receptionist sleeping. When you are a solo traveller, you want to feel safe and I did not.
The room I was given was on the West side of the hotel - this makes a huge difference apparently.
My room was dark and dingy, and on the grimey side - I didn't want to walk on the carpet barefoot. There is also a massive ungainly air con unit taking up a portion of the room, with a giant tube that feeds in to the window - this stops you from closing the window on one side. The door was also really loose, so to feel safer, I propped my case in front of it when I went to bed.
If you're on the West side of the hotel, you are opposite an open-air bar that is clearly popular with revellers, as it sounded like my bed was actually on a club dancefloor (made worse by the fact that you can't shut the window properly). The bar keeps the tunes pumping until the wee hours of the morning, with the last revellers singing and shouting their way home past 3am. If you don't mind operating on a few hours sleep, then great! Because the bell tower kicks off those famous Dalmation bells at 7am and repeats regularly, thereafter.
Words cannot describe how unhappy I was here.
Old World Charm
15ann250on 28/05/2017 21:00Looking for comfort in old world charm. This is it. Our corner room was spacious, comfortable and had an amazing view of the harbour and boats on the Adriatic. Lovely gardens and fountain out front. A little off the main esplanade gave us some privacy.
Noisy on Friday and Saturday nights from a busy bar across the street, Breakfast included was marginal. But the location could not have been better. We walked to Old Town, the amazing Mestrovic Sculpture Museum and Beaches. Good restaurants are close by.
Excellent free Wifi connection.
Perfect center
LeticaBorison 14/05/2017 19:39Hotel is in the very center. It's a bit old-fashioned and has a little of extravagant sounds but in this price is not available anywhere in the world find this location. Food was good and rooms also.We are very pleased and would definitely recommend.
Very central, very old(fashioned)
jasna zon 07/05/2017 18:09You can't get more central than this in Split, but then again, you also can't get more ramshackled than this either. This hotel obviously used to be a beauty, but due to some ownership issues (very typical for Croatia) it is not getting any better as the years go by. If your looking for a bit of nostalgia, this might be the perfect place to find it, if you are looking for something more upbeat and fancy, better skip it.
Great location but out-dated hotel
upasana mon 22/02/2017 18:21The great thing about this hotel was the location. It was centrally located. Otherwise the hotel interiors and rooms seemed like they hadn't been updated in a couple of decades. The breakfast was average. Saving grace was that our room faced the marina, which provided a great view.
