Pros and cons, overall an average hotel experience

Pros: Well-situated for visiting Ishpeming, and the staff is knowledgeable about the area and gave us a good recommendation on where to buy good pasties. Cons: Hotel doesn't have a lighted sign making it hard to find at night, and rooms on the highway side of the hotel are noisy. I don't want to discourage people from staying here because I would probably stay here again if I visit Ishpeming in the future, just setting expectations.

For the price it was well worth it.

We came to the UP to kayak the pictured rocks. We priced hotels in Munsing and Marquet and were shocked at the price. The Magnuson was a little bit of a drive but for the money we saved was well worth it. It is a little dated and does not have an elevator but for the price it was a nice hotel. 4 of us showered back to back in the morning and we all had hot water.

Clean though expensive, though not overly so, it's a good stop while traveling the UP. A simple continental breakfast is included. The staff was pleasant and you get what you expect. The only draw back is that it's on Hwy. 41, so expect noise from traffic and hotel travelers.

The Worst Hotel stay EVER !!!!

It all started at check in, the man had at the least 2 day old scrubby beard and looked as tho he work up in his work clothes from a car shop. At 7:30p.m. a family of 4 came into the pool area with their winter attire on and the dad had his greasy work clothes on and boots on with grease from changing an engine or oil, greasy up to his elbows! Then he changed into his swim suit in the changing room and dove into the pool !!! We left because of the greasy smell. Then ALL night you could hear kids running and jumping up and down the hall. No business cards to let a manager or owner know what was going on. At checkout a family was coming in to use the pool but was told it was closed. Hopefully someone tested the water, as they should each morning, and told staff to close it to be cleaned. NEVER again at this Magnuson Hotel. We stayed because of my daughters basketball tournament which we had to be there at 7:30 a.m. I will for SURE let my friends and ALL others know about this mess. Oh and when my daughter went to shower after the pool time, the shower head came off of the shower stem!! I put it back on TIGHT !

Always a nice place to stay.

I stay here whenever I'm in Ishpeming for business. It's not a new hotel but it's nice, the property is clean and well maintained, housekeeping does a fantastic job everyday of your stay. Front desk folks are very pleasant and accommodating. Room has one of the best showers you can imagine, WiFi is great, no password and don't have to reconnect everyday, nice flat screen TV with many channels to chose from. Yes the restaurant next store closed but McDonalds is also next door for a quick breakfast in addition to the conti. breakfast at the hotel. Jasper Ridge brewery is a quick walk down the road for great food and drink. There is also China King which I will try on my next visit. Overall for a small town this is a very nice place to stay.
