Family wedding
lisa79Bromelyon 07/08/2017 14:52We have just returned home after a visit to this hotel for a family wedding. The hotel itself was wonderful and the hotel staff were very good. The reason I've given it such a low rating is because of Glenn the general manager. We complained about one of the rooms, wanting to be discreet and not troubling the bride. Glenn however, thought it was a good idea to let her know that her guests were complaining which was unnecessary. He was also rude to my 87 year old grandfather twice during the course of the weekend, once at check-in and again when he asked for some extra plates at breakfast time. If you're not travelling with children and if you don't complain about anything or ask him to go out of his way for you, then he may have been better mannered but he has a very abrupt way about him which is not ideal when you are dealing with customers every day as a job. I must point out that there was a young, very tall waiter with a beard who was excellent and looked after us all weekend. He finished work at 2am and was back in at 7.30am the next day and was still super helpful and very pleasant. His customer service skills were outstanding. Beautiful hotel and location but Glenn should consider a less confrontational approach to his guests.
Wedding Guest
LiverpoolStaceyon 07/08/2017 01:34We stayed here for our brothers wedding for the weeekend and it was a perfect location. The hotel was lovely and the wedding reception was beautifully decorated, surrounded by beautiful scenery and easy to get to. Our room was of decent size with an accessible patio area and with all emenities available. The food was hearty and very enjoyable and catered for food allergies which was important to us. The bar staff and waiting on staff were fantastic, always polite and couldn't do enough for us. However the same can not be said for the hospitality manager Glen Wright. He had no manners, was very rude on every occasion we had to speak to him and showed obvious displeasement for our younger guests (flower girls etc) he appeared to be very bad tempered most of the time and didn't even so much as wish you good morning or excuse me if passing you in the corridor. He was unapproachable and made you feel as if the slightest ask was an inconvenience to him. A few comments were made by him because we're English or maybe more specifically because the wedding party and guests were scousers. He was the only let down of the whole weekend. I wouldn't his bad attitude put you off as a place to stay as the hotel is lovely and we would stay here again.
Wonderful Hotel
SUSIENORFOLKon 30/07/2017 20:22My husband and I stayed here for one night after a long journey from Norfolk .What an amazing find. From the moment we arrived and greeted by Glen the manager we felt totally relaxed. We were shown to our garden view room and sat outside on the patio drinking wine and taking in the breathtaking views over the hills and the highland cattle. After a delicious meal,we had a really good night's sleep in the comfortable quiet bedroom.Breakfast didn't disappoint either. We left feeling thoroughly refreshed and will definitely return.A big thank you to Glen and all your staff for making our stay so memorable.
Quiet location and personalised service
Simon Yon 23/07/2017 18:37We needed a place to stay to break up my 800-900 mile journey. This was one of the hotels we stayed in on our way back. We quickly got a reply to my email which I sent prior to my stay, something which many hotels fail to do nowadays. I told them I didn't need a cot but would be bringing our own cot. That was acknowledged at check-in, so they have a good notes system. We were quickly greeted by the staff as we entered the hotel, despite having arrived quite early for many hotels. We were guided to our room by a member of staff and were able to book dinner in the restaurant. The room was fairly modern which is quite good for a very old country house. We wanted to go out and explore so we asked the Manager where there was somewhere to walk nearby. He recommended the Eskrigg nature reserve, so we went out there. (There is nothing much to do in Lockerbie or near the hotel). But the purpose of our stay was a quiet location really and it was something different to stay in a small compact country house with personalised service. We were greeted well to dinner and the manager quickly addressed putting the baby in a suitable non-hazardous location in the restaurant without us prompting or hinting to him. The baby and both of us had a really relaxed meal in the restaurant. The staff were young but really happy and welcoming. The food was like a top restaurant. The meals were delivered very quickly. Wifi was a bit flaky at times. As a Fairmont Platinum customer and Best Western Platinum customer I have very high standards. Whilst this is not really a comparitive hotel to the Fairmont chain, I really respect the different sort of service and hotel this place offered.
1st Class Borders Hotel
Craig Mon 12/07/2017 13:10I always enjoy staying at this gem of a hotel a couple of times a year en route to Scotland. Based just by the M74 and an hour's drive from Glasgow this is independently run hotel makes a change from the usual chains. The rooms are good, the food excellent but above the service is outstanding
