Girls Weekend
Shana Hon 14/08/2017 22:00This motel was clean, but quite old and a tad bit musty smelling. Bathroom was odd, real low ceilings, not much room. Staff was friendly. Breakfast was so-so. Within walking distance to town, restaurants, and bars.
Friendly, quaint stay
Marcia Yon 11/08/2017 00:16Friendly staff, comfy bed, spacious main room. The only thing we didn't enjoy was how small the bathroom was compared to the rest of the room - very squashy, and then be faced with a bathroom door that opened into the bathroom, which then minimised space to manoeuvre around in there even more.
Thanks for a pleasant stay....
Affordable, but not fantastic
Amy Bon 07/08/2017 16:21The General Nelson Inn was a good price and the staff was helpful and kind. The room was clean and the bed and pillows were comfortable. The walls seem very thin and not very sound-proof. There is a cool "porch" in the front right by where our room was and there were people laughing and talking LOUDLY out there until after midnight even though the signage says to keep it quiet after 11PM. The biggest complaint was the breakfast. It was truly awful. There were egg discs (prewarmed and tasteless), below average sausage patties, hard biscuits, and well below average baked goods. The juices tasted like medicine. Even though the breakfast was included, we chose to go eat elsewhere the second morning we were there. We chose the hotel since it did include breakfast, so it was very disappointing we didn't use it the second day because it was so bad. Overall, it was fine, but I likely wouldn't choose to stay there again.
Mixed feelings.
pprffon 07/08/2017 04:03We were in room101. It appeared the only update was the mattress and bedding, both were quite comfortable. Room is set-up for convenience. Bathroom is VERY MUCH in need of an over-hall. It needs to be completely redone, not just a new toilet. Replace the cracked wall tile, the stained tub, the corroded dual faucets, the stained counter tops and sink, the corroded towel bar and sink faucet.
The grounds and patios and pool area are very welcoming and well maintained. So is the breakfast room. The free breakfast, however, convinced us to look for another option the next morning.
The WiFi worked well and there were plenty of available outlets for electronics.
The location can't be beat. But if road noise bothers you, request a room on the back.
The free bus ride to the Stephen Foster play is helpful and the bus driver is very pleasant. Please remember to tip her.
The staff is also helpful and friendly.
Quaint Little Inn
Debbi Von 07/08/2017 00:20This was our second stay at the GNI and it didn't disappoint. The rooms do have a little bit of a musty smell, but you get used to it quickly and just enjoy the stay. The rooms are clean, and large enough to share. There were 8 of us on this weekend and we stayed 5 rooms. The staff and visitors are friendly and tolerated us playing card games until late into the evening. We welcome back. If I had one suggestion, it would be for housekeeping to pay a little closer attention to the bathrooms. The floors weren't the cleanest, but then again, we weren't in there for long!! Love this Inn and I will stay there again.
