Needs sound proofing but otherwise pleasant hotel
millypinkon 03/08/2017 18:38Stayed for one night, I must say when I drove up my heart sank looking at the surrounding area but on closer inspection it wasn't as bad as first thought. Free parking next door on a weekend in what I believe are council offices? The hotel still retains remnants of its grand Edwardian past & has some beautiful rooms such as the stunning room used for weddings (there was one on & we had a look in) I had a single room which was big enough, no view but that was fine, happy with large bathroom with a bath. My electric kept tripping out but the maintenance staff were quick to respond & put this right. After a fabulous visit to the marina & Navy museum which is brilliant & I would defiantly recommend a visit, we had a few drinks in the bar which I thought quite expensive for a sports type bar. We ate in the Indian resteraunt below stairs which was very nice, good food & nice surroundings. My room was number 201 & I would never recommend anyone staying in there when a function is on, the noise was so loud I may aswell have been at the party, could hear every word the dee jay said & the walls were bouncing with the sound, no chance of sleep what so ever!! it did spoil what had been a very good night. We booked a large table at breakfast as there were ten of us & I must say I thought the breakfast was excellent, nicely cooked & vegetarian sausages which gives it a big thumbs up from me! lovely fruit salad with berries, all served with a smile 10/10 there. Overall the hotel is a good basic hotel but I would not stay again due to the party noise, it may be better in another room, but it is for this reason only, that I would not recommend staying here.
Pleasant, possibly haunted.
runningaroundLondonon 23/07/2017 09:19A nice change from bland chains with 'business facilities' (a 56k modem socket) and 'quirky' branding that says 'screw you' between the bubbly letters.
Not perfect but pretty good. Friendly staff, some of them possibly from the afterlife (in a good way!)
Whilst in the bathroom my suitcase fell over of it's own accord. Then some seagulls seemed determined to fly through the closed window (the window was closed because it wouldn't stay open. Luckily). The spirit world were possibly displeased with my great value reservation so I left an offering of some Kinder Shoko Bons and went out for a bit to the excellent Hops & Wine near by.
Breakfast was fine enough, pretty good coffee all things considered. Optimistically, five tables had been set.
All in all a good hotel - it's a worthwhile opportunity to stay in a (presumably) once prestigious Victorian hotel. A few little Best Western corporate touches are rather welcome and things are clean and tidy.
Hartlepool is a lovely town, particularly the Headland. It's a great place to cycle around.
Clean but.....
Sarah Aon 19/07/2017 08:26When you arrive at this hotel there's no visible parking. You park in a loading bay and run in to be told that there are 13 spaces in the park opposite. All full. You try to use the pay and display but it only takes old pound coins. You then find your ticket runs out at 23.59! That's ok as the private park beside the hotel can be used from 6pm....but you have to move the car before 8am. Grrr.
The dodgy lift rattles up to your room. Can't open the bedroom door. After a struggle finally, with a pull and a tug, it's open. The room is large and thankfully clean, but very austere, stuffy and gloomy. The tv is the size of a matchbox and keeps cutting out. The only way to open the window is to climb onto the ledge and prop it open with a coat hanger. The bathroom window frame is broken. The saving grace is that there is plenty of hot water.
The staff are pleasant enough but lack proper training and inter personal skills.
Glad it was only one night!
Wedding day and night
nicolabrady1978on 12/07/2017 23:36Well were to begin...Kelly the wedding planner was first class from start to finish - making sure we knew exactly what was required and when...and above all - her calming/laid back attitude helped to make the experience a lot less stressful that we anticipated.
The ceremony room was set up exactly how we wanted...and was completely breathtaking to walk down the aisle in the grand ball room. The reception was held in the grand ball room and looked absolutely amazing.
Everything went without a glitch. Food was delicious, staff were efficient and extremely helpful.
Bridal suite was huge with tall ceiling and a jacuzzi bath alongside shower - the only downside was it looked dated.
Overall the wedding package was fantastic, Kelly and her team were outstanding... we would highly recommend this to others.
Good experiance
