Family stay
Agoangirlon 02/08/2017 07:57I was looking for a hotel for 1 night (3 rooms) close to Bristol city centre and everything was very expensive and did not include free parking. I found this hotel which was a 20 min drive and with free parking at a reasonable price. The rooms were lovely with very clean bathrooms. The rooms are slightly dark but it was for only 1 night so served our purpose.
The lodge itself is lovely and not far from the castle.
The lady at reception was very friendly. I would stay again.
Clean and comfortable
tina mon 02/07/2017 21:19I stayed for one night on business.
Positives:
Very comfortable bed
Clean room, well equipped
Free fast wifi
Quiet
Friendly helpful staff
Lovely old house, pleasant gardens
Refurbished bathroom, great shower
Room service fast, good value meal
Could be better:
My room was up three steep flights of stairs, no lift, so not suitable if you have limited mobility
30 minutes from the centre of bristol, I didn't realise it was so far out.
Limited menu
I would stay again, good value for money.
Excellent getaway from bustle of city centre
Phil Pon 02/07/2017 09:13Booked last minute as visiting friends. 20 mins away by car and it was really quite. Check in nice and easy, staff we encountered were friendly. Rooms are modern and spacious. More like an apartment then a room. Comfy beds with memory foam mattress, proper shower with decent pressure. Even power sockets by the bed. Only downside was only 2 coffee sachets. But you can get more from reception. Overall a fantastic overnight stay and will defiantly stay there next time we are down in the area.
nearly all good !
Nigel Won 28/06/2017 11:01Arrived on Sunday when restaurant does not open ( central reservations didn't mention that!), but fortunately the bus stop right outside has excellent service into Bristol (about 30mins) so spent evening there.... actually a good plan. The hotel is a lovely old building, but 4 flights of stairs to our room... bit put out when found TV remote not working, ended up swapping with another room, but too old for up & down stairs all evening!.Staff all very friendly (especially Kay in dining room) and cooked to order breakfasts great, An earlier review mentions small tables in dining room, and extension lead wiring in bedroom, both very true but overall was pleasant stay.
Relaxing, quiet and clean.
Tizzyelleon 13/06/2017 18:13This is a lovely hotel. It is quite homely and quaint. It has a beautiful garden and a pleasant, small restaurant. All the staff are super friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the restaurant three times: whilst there is limited choice on the menu, the food served is very good quality and did not disappoint. The cooked breakfast is tasty too, with impressive products. However, the poached eggs were overcooked, but the waitress noticed and returned them. The second lot were perfect.
We stayed on two occasions recently. The first time we were in room twelve which is an attic conversion room. The sloping ceiling was a bit cumbersome for us as we are tall. The second time we stayed, we were on the same floor in a large family room (room 9) which did not have sloping ceilings. However, it was on the third floor and the steep staircase does make it difficult if you have a lot of luggage. If I were to return, I would request a room below number eight, thus being on the lower floors.
It is quite an old building, with very creaky floors. However, the bathrooms have been refurbished and are great, with fantastic showers. The rooms where spotlessly clean on both occasions.
