What People are saying

Basic travelers hotel

Marilyn M on 17/10/2017 22:20

We stayed here only because it was close to the Italian Space Agency where my husband was attending a meeting. The rate was 70 euros and it showed. It was comfortable enough as a place to sleep. I will list the pros, cons, and some general things that US travelers might expect that this hotel doesn't have.

Pros:
Low cost
Pleasant and helpful staff; They spoke enough English to answer questions.
The room had a mini-fridge, TV, phone, and a safe. The bathroom had a medium sized vanity around the sink. (I note this because that other hotel I stayed in just had a sink.)
There is a bed, two night stands, an ottoman, luggage rack, desk, and plastic straight chair.
The wardrobe had 3 hangers, a small chest of 2 drawers, and the safe.
There were two shelves under the TV that we used to store items.
Room had a balcony.
Our room was over the court yard and was quiet
The bed was comfortable.
The bath towels are large and absorbent.
The hair dryer is attached to the wall. It has two temperatures. You have to hold down the ON switch the entire time you blow dry you hair.
The toilet in the room was "running" and the staff quickly corrected the problem after we reported it.

There is a bar and a restaurant on site with limited hours, and was expensive.
It is very near the Metro line C stops (but line C does not go all the way to the main tourist sites. You would have to take a bus from the end of the line)
Hotel offers a free shuttle to the Metro line A (Anagnina station) once an hour. You need to sign up for it. Line A goes to Termini station.

The breakfast buffet included in the price was very good. There were hot and cold items. They were the same items each day. Pastries, fruit, bread, dry cereal, yogurt, scrambled eggs, beans, wurtzel (similar to frankfurters), and bacon (but not like American bacon), American coffee, hot water, and a good selection of tea. You can get Italian style coffee if you ask.

The lobby is large and has lots of seating in various nooks for gathering with your group.
The decorating was nice.

Cons:
The wi-fi connection was often dropped and it was not fast. Very frustrating if you depended on it for business.

Although the hotel's web site claims to have dry cleaning and laundry service, it does not. I was directed to a Launderia across the street. I expected a coin laundry. It appears to take in dry cleaning, and does laundry on site. It cost 14 euros to wash and dry one load. I was there to start the load with the correct temperature, but they transferred the wash to the dryer and even folded the load. The staff spoke a few words of English (I only know a few words of Italian, enough to select the right temperature.) That was a nice experience over all.

The room was very basic and a bit too small for the size of the bed. On the foot of the bed, there was a path one foot wide between the bed and the shelves under the TV. The legs of the bed were right on the edge and we were constantly stubbing toes.
No alarm clock.
We had to keep our suitcases out because there was not enough clothes storage for five days of two people's clothes. This made the room more cramped.
There was no furniture on balcony, so we could not really enjoy it. We would have had to drag the desk chair and ottoman out there.
The only cleanliness issue I notices was that there appears to be black mold in the shower enclosure. I was too busy to point that out to the reception staff. It is easy for the cleaning staff not to notice, but when you get in and close the doors, you see it.

The neighborhood looks to be a poor, run-down neighborhood. The sidewalks had weeds and trash. There were 3 huge dumpsters next to the hotel that were not emptied during the 5 days we were there. I could see people scavenging from them. I would not go out alone or at night.

General notes: (This is not criticism. Just some things are different than US motels)
The room key card must remain in the slot by the door for the lights to stay on and for most of the power outlets to be powered.
Only the outlet under the TV remains powered when the room key card is gone. (I had expected to be able to charge my iPhone while at breakfast, but no.)

There will be a lot of armed police loitering about (carabineri) I am guessing that they are attending training classes at the police station in the next block and stay in this hotel. They keep their police vans at the hotel and they are gone during the day. They seem like nice fellows even tho they are armed.

There are few places to eat within walking distance. There is a shopping center a block up the street with a food market (Simply Market) They have food and beverages, including fruit and cheese, and a prepared food section. We bought several of our meals there. I recommend the chicken cacciatore. We bought paper plates and cutlery and ate in our room.
One hint: if you buy fruit, you need to note the number associated with the fruit and weigh it at a station in the produce section. We are used to having the produce weighed at the register, so we missed that until we got to the register. Another customer took my husband back to weigh the fruit (we were holding up the long line, so I felt bad.)
You also need to bring your own bags or buy a paper bag. We bought a reusable bag, since we would be there a few days. I also noticed many people using what I guess would be "food stamps", government assistance, to buy groceries. It was another indication that this is a poor area.
The shopping center has a general store that stocks almost everything you could use. I did not notice if a pharmacy was there.
There is a post office and a police substation in the shopping center, so I felt safe there.

You should bring your own washcloth or loofah, and your own shampoo, hair conditioner, bar soap, and body lotion. The hotel only has pump hand soap by the sink and a shower gel dispenser in the shower.

Be sure to research how to use a bidet. separate towels are supplied for it. Try it at least once. I can see the advantages.

Hotel was full of armed riot police "carabineri " & don't go out at night I was told by the receptionist on that I left with no refund from either the hotel or loveholidays, so not the relaxed time I had envisaged sorely disappointed

My first review because of this hotel!

Shadi R on 16/09/2017 07:32

Im a student in Rome and decided to stay here for a week to do an exam before going back to my country. Even though the hotel was cheap it wasn't worth it. The rooms were clean and tidy yet very small and lacking some surprising things (for instance the shampoo and shower gel were the same as the hand soap) , and the thing separating me from the other room was a door so i could hear anything they did and I'm sure they heard me too. And as for the wifi it NEVER worked and i was on just the 2nd floor! The breakfast was awful, repetitive and technically uneatable (even the bread was solid hard). The area around of the hotel was expectedly dirty and boring as it was outside the city center. But most annoyingly was the treatment i received from the hotel secretary. Not only were they unfriendly and unhelpful but also disrespectful in many ways. I'd rather pay a couple of extra bucks and stay in a peaceful and friendly environment!

There was nothing I could fault with the hotel itself apart from location

Byron P on 14/08/2017 20:42

Read reviews and was extremely wary beforehand.

The staff were polite and very helpful. The hotel was very clean with all amenities working......pool, Air con (and we needed it), Gym. WIFI strength questionable. Restaurant was fully stocked in the mornings for breakfast with I would say too much choice. We used the shuttle service daily offered by the hotel and both drivers were lovely. The rooms were not a great deal smaller than most business hotels but if you are off for a city break they were just right.

The local police did park their vehicles in there, but they seem to be at staying over for training at the local offices etc, just 45 seconds walk away - no apolyptic street disturbances to control during our visit.

I didn't give five stars due to location. All large cities have these places, tower blocks etc. However at no time did I feel worried and I found the local folk lovely. It is a stretch to the centre of Rome but yet again its part of the break - people watching on the tube and buses. One thing which will last with me for ever is the rubbish, it's basically everywhere......but that's the city of Rome they can't cope with the rubbish for ome reason!

Downtown hotel

Tanvi G on 29/07/2017 08:05

Situated in downtown, this hotel has an odd location. Neither is it closer to the city nor is it exactly close to the airport. that is compensated by a train line that runs closer to the hotel, and takes you to the city
That being said, the accommodation was actually decent. The rooms were compact, yet neat. Not exactly the best view from the rooms, though.
Food was good, breakfast had decent number of options.
The reception hosts a number of games to pass your time; with exception of the pool table.
The staff was helpful and catered to our needs patiently.Would recommend for a night's stay or even a short one.
