juliebC9730NPon 04/08/2017 17:47Clean, comfortable rooms. Great, friendly, helpful staff. Quiet rooms - we were there two nights and never heard any outside noise. Lovely indoor pool. Continental breakfast included had many choices and a lovely area to eat.
Not a bad place to stay
stoney21804on 03/08/2017 03:50I stayed here for one night in June while in town for a business function. It was my first trip to Grant County, and while John Day itself wasn't exactly the shining star of Oregon as cities go, I've been to worse.
The hotel itself was a nice find, not that there were a lot of options in town, but I've had good luck with Best Westerns generally, and was pleased when the boss let me book here. The location was very convenient, as it is on the main road through town, and I was able to walk to the nearby restaurants and store. There were also a couple of fast food joints within the same walking distance (less than two blocks). As for the room, I stayed in a King room on the second floor. I was pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the room, and I was more than satisfied with the TV and in-room WIFI, which allowed me to put the finishing touches on my work presentation without making me suffer through shared internet speeds like I've experienced other places. Everything else in the room (fridge, microwave, iron, coffee maker, etc) seemed to be in perfect working order. Breakfast offerings were also surprisingly plentiful, and I left with a full tummy. Staff at check-in, check-out, and breakfast were pleasant and helpful.
While John Day wasn't all that exciting, I enjoyed the drive in, and the views are really cool from the airport, which more or less looks over the entire city.
If I have occasion to stay in the area again, I will gladly re-book at the Best Western. In a geographical area where they could get away with being sub-par due to lack of other options, they instead held to the Best Western brand and put out a good product. My only gripe is merely half-hearted in that I heard it was a little spendy for the location, but I didn't have to pay for it, so I'm not too torn up about it.
About what we expected from a Best Western
frequent_traveler290on 30/07/2017 01:09We arrived at 3:00pm but were told our room wasn't ready yet. Our room was ready about 30-45 minutes later. Room appeared to be clean until we started looking closely: half-eaten muffin in the desk drawer and funny markings on the ceiling. The breakfast was the usual food selection that's available at most Best Western's. Even though our room was next to the highway, thankfully we didn't hear much traffic noise. The swimming pool had too much chlorine, so much in fact that it was burning the eyes of some people in our group. The "hot" tub water temperature was lukewarm.
Better than expected in a remote location
gvh67on 28/07/2017 15:13This was a one night stopover on our 3,000-mile road trip through the north west states as we needed somewhere close to the John Day Fossil Beds NM. The rooms are laid out motel-style so there's no lift but our queen room was bigger than average and had all of the usual amenities - tea/coffee making facilities, microwave, fridge, air-con and TV. The free wifi only needed a single sign in and there were plenty of recharge sockets. The en suite was also a good size although the bathtub was on the small side. There was a good selection of both hot and cold choices for the complimentary breakfast. Definitely worth considering if you're in the area.
2 days stay in beautiful John Day
Ristianto_Pribadion 27/07/2017 00:25I stayed at this hotel during my 2 days visit in John Day, Oregon.
From outside this hotel looks like a Motel, however when you enter the room, you will find that this is a 4 stars hotel.
The breakfast was basic American breakfast, with choice of breads, tea and coffee.
It has an indoor swimming pool, which is great, especially when you go to John Day in chilly weather.
Definitely this hotel is the best hotel in town.
