Not as good as it used to be
misspiggy2017on 28/07/2017 15:32We have been staying at this hotel for several years and it has always been very well run by owner-managers. However, it was sold in March to a South African company and the standard has dropped. There is no resident manager and it shows. It used to have a buzz about it, whilst now it feels as though it doesn't quite know where it is going. Whilst the food is still good the service in the dining room is very variable.
Long weekend away with friends
Helen Non 22/07/2017 21:02We booked the Northfield Hotel for a group of us to stay, as it had plenty of bedrooms, lovely gardens and a swimming pool. We weren't disappointed and all the members of our orchestra really enjoyed the long weekend. We were well looked after by the very friendly staff, the meals were delicious and some of us enjoyed swimming in the heated indoor pool and putting on the green. The staff catered for all of us, including three young children and we all felt very well looked after. We will definitely be back!
short weekend break
chrisX4843GFon 19/07/2017 11:08Chose this hotel because it had a swimming pool. Lovely room with a good ensuite, lovely a clean and a very comfortable 6ft bed. (delux room) Not sure you would call this good value money, a bit expensive for what it was.
Lovely view towards the sea
crystalsingeron 18/07/2017 16:58Its one of those traditional hotels by the sea. Its not modern but it was clean. The room had a lovely view over the pretty gardens down towards the sea and the Butlins tent. The bathroom was clean and although a saniflow toilet gave us no problems. The room was light and airy and clean and very pleasant, but don't stay if you are expecting modern.
We stayed for the 4 course evening meal. Soup followed the starter and I am convinced it was powdered soup but other wise the meal was lovely. Likewise the breakfast the next day was a high standard and I have to say the staff were absolutely lovely. I do actually think the staff made the hotel the pleasant place it was
The pool, steam room and spa were a pleasant surprise.
There were only 2 things that I felt needed attention to make this a perfect stay... 1. Modernising the Jacuzzi as the few jets that there were made it more a swish than a bubbly massage
2. The red topped salt and pepper pots were icky. I think many hands on the rubberised tops had left deposits and worn bits and these were not nice, Please could you replace,
Needs urgent overhaul
kwiks2015on 17/07/2017 23:09Lets start with the positive points: very good bed, good food, friendly staff, clean.
The whole hotel breaths history, which has its character. (But you have to loike it)
Negative:
Bathroom was probably done in the 60's and need a major overhaul. Also several pieces of furniture show their age in a negative way.
If you love to go back in time, go there. If you look for something more modern.. keep looking.
Prices are reasonable, especially in the restaurant.
