Great breakfast, and that's about it

Doc2r_Philon 29/06/2016 05:27

I've stayed at this hotel several times in the past 10 years as part of a charitable trip, staying in both the ground and upper floors, both north and south wings, and If I had my choice, I would not stay here again ... unless I was there for a loud party.

The hotel is very resonant, and noises carry easily - it's made out of cinder blocks and tile floors. Simple conversation in a hallway is amplified (good luck napping during the day). Rooms facing the street are subject to noise all day long from the market. And on weekends it can be difficult to sleep before 2 a.m. - the banquet rooms are often busy with wedding receptions or other parties, and the music thumps throughout the hotel.

Room keys are frequently deactivated - be ready to walk back to the front desk every day.

The front desk does not exchange currency, and instead sends my friends and me to the small bar in the billiards room (even when nobody is there), or to the cashier in the restaurant, which is within arms' reach from the front desk.

The exercise room is pathetic - for the past 6 years, the treadmill has been inoperable for anything but walking upon by a 98-lb person (the tread "bottoms-out" as soon as you start running); the stationary bike seat tilts backwards 90 degrees (which might be an interesting feature in a different kind of hotel); and the "weight bench" wobbles, as if the nuts and bolts were tightened by the same 98-lb weakling. This year was the first time I saw someone "fixing" the equipment - "fixes" which lasted until I tried running on the treadmill and my friend tried riding the bike.

House-keeping staff are attentive and friendly.

The breakfast buffet is fantastic, and the waiters are wonderful - it's a destination for the locals.

Clean & Well Appointed Hotel

We've stayed here twice a year for several years on our way to & from our Mazatlan condo. We have always enjoyed our stay especially the Tony Roma's room service & the fabulous Best Western breakfast buffet. This year was particularly pleasant because of Katrina. Her good English & extremely helpful manner make her a valuable asset to this hotel. We were also pleasantly surprised by the new carpeting & refreshed decor in the always immaculate rooms.

Hard to find

Directions from highway not good. The hotel is difficult to find. We needed to pay a taxi driver to lead us to the hotel. After we finally got there everyone at the hotel was very helpful. We had a good stay.

Goog enough

The hotel is decent and clean. They assigned me first to a room that was not very clean, and where we saw a bug. The staff changed me to a different room, which was much cleaner. There was not a refrigerator in the room or microwave, so be prepared for that. The hotel is located at a good spot, and the stay was pleasant overall. I do recommend the hotel considering the area where it is located.

Old, austere, poor service, and not as cheap for you to overlook it.

Hotel is very old, maybe decades ago it was a nice hotel but now it is just old, furniture is in urgent need of replacement, old box TV with no cable o good TV channels, no internet in rooms; stairs, halls and rooms share the same old, moisty, ugly carpet, no elevator, hardly accesible for people with disabilities and Seniors; bedding is old and ugly, it was clean but ugly, bathroom is again old and very very tiny, and the door didn´t close well and made noises; no water bottles available in the room, and no sign about water in tub to be potable, so quite a risk for me to drink water in the room; A/C system in room very noisy, tiny window in room with no view at all.
Price was about 80 USD per night, so quite expensive for what yo get, in the area you can find a 90 USD hotel that will be so much better, higher quality. Don´t expect this hotel to be a quality hotel like a brand hotel, try better for another brand. In terms of price I would have payed 40 - 50 usd for what I got that night.
On the bright side, hotel is adequate for families, no suspicious guests or lonely questionable men.
And last but not least.... Restaurant service was very bad and poor food, took the waiter about 30 min to realize we where there and bring the menus, 20 minute wait for our beverages and food took forever even when we ordered quesadillas and molletes.
