What People are saying
poor upkeep
ecrtron 21/09/2013 23:29The water smells like an outhouse. I got a water filter to take care of this issue. The place was not as clean as it should have been. Owners are very kind and nice people. Lots of happy kids in the area. There is access via unpaved road and it is kind of rustic.
Top flight outfit
James Hon 06/08/2013 04:32We enjoyed our stay and could not have met better people both as residents and at the store/office complex. They know how to treat their customers which will, in turn, be their best advertisement. Funny how an attitude can make o break a business. Clean and comfortable; great for families. Fairly priced as well.
Great trip! We would do it again!
WheelerMinneapolison 27/08/2011 02:41As soon as we pulled into the resort our girls immediately befriended a group of kids in a neighboring cabin. This was a parents vacation 'heaven' ... a nature setting with plenty of children to play with each other and there were never any howls of, "I'm bored." There was a nice sense of community with respect to the kids' safety around the water. The sunsets were beautiful on the lake; Enjoy one with a glass of wine in the evening as you sit next your personal fire pit.
The Best Vacation in Years!
jc060973tcon 09/08/2011 01:55We just finished The Best Vacation in Years! Our family of seven rented two adjacent cabins at Shangri La Resort. They were perfect. The grandchildren are aged 2,3,and 5 and the facilities were perfect for them. The cabins were spotless but "touchable". The beach and swimming area was great. They included kayaks, a diving raft and paddleboats. There is miniature golf, shuffleball, basketball, sandbox (with toys), and a playground.
Boats are available for rent,. We rented a pontoon boat and cruised Wolf Lake. We motored up the Mississippi from the north end of Wolf Lake and saw herons and all kinds of ducks. We found a delightful sand bank that rose above the Mississippi river giving everyone a wonderful view from the top of the dune.
The bald eagles are everywhere. The loons are plentiful and serinaded us every night.
There is lots for adults and children to do. There is a petting zoo nearby. Bemidji is only 10 miles away. A trip to the beginning of the Mississippi river at Lake Itasca is only an hour away and should not be missed.
The owner (Lori) and her staff are the most pleasant and helpful people you could hope to meet.
We are looking forward to returning in the very near future.
Lovely, old-fashioned resort
juniemonsteron 02/10/2007 04:27My husband stayed at this lake when he was a kid, so we were delighted to find an old-fashioned resort up here. The resort has about a dozen cabins, 4 docks, a number of boats, a lodge, and a sandy swimming beach. Our cabin was great. We had a four bedroom cabin, two bathroom cabin, which was bigger than our home! The cabin was very clean and was fully stocked. This resort is not fancy, but it is clean and comfortable.
The four kids we brought with us loved playing on and by the water. There were kayaks, canoes, paddle boats, other water toys, and a raft to swim to. They caught minnows with nets, and fished off the dock. The kids could have played right on the sandy beach for hours. There were a number of firepits as well, and we had bonfires at night. The kids also liked the rickety miniature golf, and the rickety playground!! We were there in the shoulder season after most of the activities were over, but the kids still had an amazing time just playing on their own.
We took out the pontoon boat a number of times, and had a blast going from lake to lake on the Mississippi river. The kids loved that the Mississippi was only a few feet deep and a few feet wide up there - barely big enough for the boat! Cass Lake is two lakes away, and you can drive over there in the boat for dinner.
The owner was very friendly and generous. She was so nice to our four kids, and really made this a family friendly place. She even took us out with one of her kids to a special spot for the kids to play. She really makes people feel at home.
The resort is about 5 minutes from an OK grocery store in Cass Lake (which also has a few restaurants), and about 15 minutes from Bemidji. It's also relatively close to Lake Itasca. A great location!
