Unplanned overnight stay
ClarabellMcon 29/08/2017 19:29We'd been clacton to the beach and planned to visit Frinton beach the next day. As it was a bank holiday weekend it was proving very difficult to secure last night accommodation. We weren't disappointed, staff are really lovely.
Classic style
Bisel2014on 21/08/2017 21:37Traditional comfort in the oldest hotel in Colchester.
Mind your head ! - the beams are genuine and very low.
We had an executive double room on the first floor, overlooking the road, which meant it was a bit noisy until the traffic died down.
Friendly bar with good value meals.
Breakfast was disappointing, the chef couldn't do eggs - we tried poached, scrambled and fried during our three days, but the pancakes were delicious
Party time
Betty Von 21/08/2017 17:40Stayed here for 2 nights (not the first time we have stayed). Wonderful hotel, full of character, very clean, the staff are excellent, very helpful and friendly, we were particularly helped by Sue and Stefan
Elegant and Charming Hotel
tinytrollon 19/08/2017 17:16Excellent stay at the Rose and Crown this weekend. A warm greeting from reception awaited us. Our room was very good, clean and tidy and in keeping with the rest of the hotel. There was ample complementary tea, coffee, milk etc in the room. We ate dinner at the hotel which was equally enjoyable.
Visit to see daughter and son - in- law
Gina Ron 16/08/2017 18:49Used this hotel only as a base and so did not use the restaurant. Lovely old building and rooms cosy and clean. Reception staff friendly. Only two blips in our stay. 1. No hot water and we were told the boiler had not been turned on. 2. No remote control for the T.V. Both soon remedied.
