    What People are saying

    Unprofessional management

    ssmith157 on 19/11/2017 21:30

Attended here today for lunch with some friends we meet up with once a month. Food overall was okay, restaurant staff very attentive only downside to the visit was the manager behind the desk and the manner he had towards his staff. I was standing in the bar area and could hear some cross words and to my shock realised it was the manager speaking to his staff. I felt very uncomfortable with the whole situation that I found myself going to stand outside to step away from it all. The two young girls that work there left in tears over the rude manner that he spoke to them. I found it very unprofessional that he was speaking to them in this manner in such a public place and personally think there is a time and place to deal with this. He then proceeded to bad mouth the girls when they had both left in ear shot of everyone in the reception area. All in all a lovely hotel but in my personal opinion think the manager needs sacking or retraining on how to speak to people.

Beautiful Setting, Warm Welcome and Great Service

Set in an Old Manor House the Best Western Staff were exceptional. Warm welcoming and a great sense of humor. The setting is an Old Manor house. The rooms are a nice size, comfortable, but like the rest of the building looks a bit dated and tired.
The staff provided a very warm welcome and their service could not be faulted. From the gentleman at reception to the lovely lady who welcomed us to breakfast (who'd worked there for 11 years), we felt welcomed and they could not do enough to make our stay a comfortable one. Breakfast was very nice and plenty of it available. Plenty of parking space and the grounds were very nice. Would definitely stay again.

    Our wedding day!

We recently had our wedding here, from the ceremony to the reception. the staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. Whilst we were having our photos taken, a male member off staff even went to get us complimentary drinks! The wedding breakfast and the evening buffet were cooked beautifully, the service was just all round brilliant. i would recommend this place to anyone!

    Possibly the worst hotel ever

    K3977SOjc on 23/10/2017 16:09

Now, I've stayed in some pretty awful hotels in my time, but this one really surpasses anything I could imagine a hotel shouldn't be!

Where to start - the rude chap on reception who had no interest in even acknowledging our presence when we tried to check in, the awful smelling damp room, and the less than welcoming spiders in the 'bar' area.

We were given room 2 - upon our arrival to the room the corridor had a horrible musky smell, we didn't think the room could possibly smell any worse. Well, this hotel managed to surpass that mark. The instant smell of damp that hits you is awful, its cold, and the bedding I wouldn't expect my dog to sleep on it was so poor. The view out the window was non existent, just a load of crap dumped into some attached side shed to the hotel. Surely it couldn't get any worse? Oh boy, we entered the bathroom to find we had been booked into the disabled room. At no point on our booking did it warn us we could be in a disabled room, and frankly it is a joke that they even offer this room to human beings. It is an insult, disgusting and the worst room I have ever had the displeasure of stepping foot it. It's not fit for purpose, how you would expect someone who needs a wheelchair to get round the room is beyond me!

Back to reception I went, were I was advised that the hotel was full. Eventually, we managed to convince them that this really isn't adequate for anyone to stay in and got a room upstairs.

The room was still horrible, damp patches on the wall but slightly warmer and the bathroom was reasonable. We quickly changed and headed for the bar, laptops in hand. Unfortunately, it didn't get any better. The red sofas in the bar are the most uncomfortable bits of furniture I have ever sat on, half the plug points don't work and the cobwebs and spiders have the run of the place.

On a positive, the female staff are lovely and really friendly. The chap who works there on the other hand needs to be moved onto something behind the scenes (spider captor maybe?), the most miserable, grumpy sad looking guy I've seen in a long time. He sums up this place, no soul and interest in engaging with anyone who walks through the door.

Thankfully, we have black listed this hell hole from any future business visits - I would strongly suggest you do the same!!

It's not even deserving of 1 star, it really is that bad!

    Don't even think about it

I ended up here after making a last minute book and simply not having much choice. I ended up in Room 2, and before I'd even got to my room the receptionist made clear that they were full. My first impression of the room was a damp smell masked by large amounts of cleaner. I'm not sure why it was damp, but most likely because the bathroom does not have an extractor fan, so when you use the shower it creates so much steam that the net curtains stuck to the window in the bedroom even when the bathroom door is closed.

The bathroom has all the equipment for people who are disabled, so I entertained myself by imaging how on earth anyone in a wheelchair would get into the room, far less all the way to the bathroom. The room is so tight and over-stuffed with furniture that it would take four strong men to lift the wheelchair-bound visitor over the beds and chairs.

Sometimes I could almost forgive an over-priced hotel if I just got a good sleep. Not much chance in this place. The bedsheets had a cold damp feel as if the room should have had a dehumidifier running, but the most irritating thing about the bed was that it was too short. I'm only 6'1" and this is the first time I've found my feet sticking out of the end of the bed even with my head at the headboard (delightful velvet). The biggest problem is the constant noise. The bed is against the inside wall and everyone who walks past outside might as well be going through the room. And then there is the bang every time someone shuts a door. You'll also have the pleasure of listening to everyone else using the toilet--prrrrr or pssss, then plop, plop, plop...aaaah. The waste pipe for the room above also rushes delightfully through your room.

I would fail in my duty if I did not mention the view, but a picture says it all, so see the images.

I had a meal the night before. This was a chicken from which all the moisture had miraculously been removed, but unfortunately all added to the chips.

Finally, I should say something nice, which is that the ladies at breakfast were helpful.
