Good bookend to a 4 day kayaking trip
DMWoodson 31/07/2017 21:21We selected the Bird Rock for its location near the pickup site for our 4 day kayaking trip. We stayed the night before and the night after the trip. The hotel staff was very accommodating by letting us park our car at the sister hotel during our trip, and keeping our luggage in the back room until our return. I appreciated the comfy bed on the first night, and after 3 nights sleeping in a tent, it was like heaven to return to at the end of our kayak trip. We had a balcony with our room and it was a lovely spot to sit and watch activities in Friday Harbor. I also especially enjoyed the extra touch of the provided fluffy bathrobes which more than made up for our room having a shared bathroom down the hall. The only drawback is the street noise, which was expected given the convenient location. I would definitely stay here again.
Lovely room, clean bathrooms, employees very helpful. Great place, I will stay there again.
momiswackoon 29/07/2017 23:11Lovely little hotel right in the downtown . A short walk from the ferry. The room had a walk out balcony. Great place. Can't wait to go back. The room had a ceiling fan , but no air. At night it cool off and the breeze was wonderful. Nice breakfast with scones and juice and coffee. Employees were polite and helpful.
Good things and Bad things; very convenient location
Lynn Aon 29/07/2017 04:56Like anything else, there are trade offs to this quaint hotel. Fabulous location to the ferry especially for walkers. Parking a car, not so convenient as you either move your car every 2 hours during the day or park at their sister location up the hill. I would recommend staying down in the basement around the corner from the front door as it is sheltered from the noise of the delivery trucks. When you see the ear plugs by the bed, you know something is up. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom roomy. They had really soft bathrobes which i hesitated to use for only one night stay but when my husband told me how much we were paying for the room, I quickly got over my guilt. The staff was friendly. On the downside, it's pricey but it's on an island so figure everything costs more to truck in on the ferry. No air conditioning but even in July it seemed fine; varies with the temperature I am sure and probably cooler in the basement. This room had maybe a 2-3" step from the living area to the kitchen which both my husband and I fell off of because at first we didn't see it, you know, bifocals and all. The living area carpet and kitchen flooring are the same color with no contrast. Anyone in their sixties knows that is a recipe for disaster. We put a white wash rag in the middle of the step and that helped immensely. Breakfast was continental style but only half ready when we arrived at opening bell. We waited for the scnoes and the fruit. I did like that they had hard boiled eggs. But for the price, i wasn't impressed with waiting. My husband is a scone lover and he was worried that they weren't serving any that day but luckily they finally came out. The good thing was they had cruiser bikes but the bad thing was the bikes need some attention especially air in the tires. I would stay again if in the area but think there are some less expensive places but not as convenient to the ferry.
Two night stay in Friday Harbor
Mike Mon 21/07/2017 18:54Stayed two nights at the Bird Rock hotel. The staff was incredibly attentive and quick. Caitlin was awesome! The room was impeccable and the shower is huge but might be a struggle for older guest to step into. While the room had a balcony the view wasn't anything I wanted to look at but it didn't affect my stay. We weren't in the room very long. It is somewhat noisy in the early morning due to deliveries to nearby shops but nothing excessive. I brought my car on the ferry and should have left it behind since there isn't a lot to see beyond the harbor. Overall a great time and I will be back.
One night stay in July
Karin Kon 21/07/2017 16:23I stayed here before an overnight kayak trip. Booked night before and after but the ferries were a mess due to some breakdowns so the only way to get off the island was to leave the day we returned from kayaking. I called and told them the situation on Tuesday morning and asked to cancel the room Thursday but was told of their 10 day cancellation policy. Of course they knew about the ferry problem as it was wrecking havoc for many. But no exemption they said they would try to resell but in the end were unsuccessful. I don't mind paying 10% but surely some consideration should be given to things out of your control. Tuesday night was so loud at the bottle warehouse behind them. They stopped at midnight and restarted clanging bottles at 4am! Ask for room not on the bottle warehouse side.
