What People are saying

Its rubbish, don't book it

Mal Pon 19/06/2017 15:36

I have never written a review like this.
Problem 1. You can’t get in. You can wait for ages, and keep ringing the door bell, but as there is no receptionist, you’re just stuck outside, on the pavement, in the boiling sun. That is until some kind body tells you it’s a self-service place, and they let you in.
Problem 2. On gaining entry you are faced with climbing 3 flights of stairs, with all your luggage. No lifts, and nobody to help you.
Problem 3. After climbing the stairs, you can’t still get into the hotel, that is until you notice on the door to the hotel, a small packet with your keys in, sellotaped to hotel door. 1 key for main entrance door, 1 key for hotel door, and 1 key for you room. What a security risk. And still nobody around to welcome you.
Problem 4. Arriving at your room you notice a nice bread basket with biscuits and jam. Also two pods of coffee. Nice you think, until you realise later, that that is your Breakfast!!! Limited to 1 cup of coffee, and if you are very lucky, there might be a small Croissant left, if you are early enough, in a cardboard box by reception. That’s your breakfast. There is no breakfast room, you have to eat it in your own room, but there is no table to put your plate and cup on. Wonderful experience!!!
Problem 5. The shower. All the tile grouting is covered in the soapy scummy residue, that is mixed with body bits. The black gungy stuff is creeping under the glass shower partition. You know what I mean, just horrible and unhealthy.
Problem 6. Sloppy and dangerous wiring to a bed side light
Problem 7 There is a notice in your room to say they don’t change the sweaty sheets and towels for 7 days. Yuck. I’m glad I didn’t stay that long there.
There was never anybody around to complain directly to about these issues.
Plus points. A reasonable size room with comfortable bed. Nice furniture, but no table. Its reasonably central, and easy to walk everywhere
The receptionist only turned up 10 minutes before we left, to ensure we paid the hotel tax.
Carefully consider before you make your own mind up on this place. A bit more effort, and it could be acceptable, but it wasn’t.
Oh by the way, it was the most expensive hotel per night that we had booked for our Italy trip

Good Location

The B&B was very conveniently located within Florence. Make sure to visit Pino's sandwich shop just down the street for some amazing panini's! The B&B breakfast consists of self serve pastries and make your own coffee. Also beware of the room closest to the office area as the sound echoes very loudly into the room making it difficult to relax.

Great Little Spot!

My husband and I were (sadly) only in Florence for one night, but absolutely loved our stay in Black 5 Florence. The entrance is off the street and somewhat inconspicuous but the man who was running the hotel was extremely friendly. The rooms are large and the bed was comfortable.

From the hotel, we easily walked to the Pone Vecchio, Cattedrale di Santa Maria and, of course, gelato!

In the morning, he had set out croissants and other baked goods, which was a wonderful send off.

very good choice in Florence

A very nice bed & breakfast in central Florence. Our room was very big and clean. We didn't book any breakfast so we were surprised as we got offered the typical italian breakfast with a coffee and a croissant. I can definitely recommend it!

Excellent for a city break

We stayed here for four nights and I must say I was slightly apprehensive after reading some bad reviews after I had booked this hotel. But when we got there it was a pretty easy procedure and we had a lovely room. People complain about the stairs in a lot of reviews and yes there are lots of stairs to get to the actual hotel as its within a residential apartment block, but if you're fit enough to climb the stairs in the home you can definitely manage these.
I wouldn't recommend paying for breakfast as this is left on a cake tray for you every day in the reception are. If you're looking for a smart hotel with a 24hr reception then this isn't for you. But if you're like my fiancé and I, it's perfect, they give you a set of keys. One for the main outside door, one for the lift and one for the room. And you are basically left to get on with it. The cleaners come in everyday and do an amazing job. Probably the cleanest room I have stayed in out of many holidays. And the place is right in the middle of bars and restaurant and everywhere is just a walk away. I would definitely stay here again if I was in Florence. Highly recommended!
